Job description


Job Summary
The Lowbed Truck Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of heavy equipment and oversized loads. This role requires a strong understanding of heavy haul operations, including securement, permitting, and route planning. Ability to operate haul trucks and other construction equipment to transport and dump loose materials such as sand, gravel, crushed rock, and/or operate a lowboy trailer for transporting equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Functions
• Operate lowbed trucks and Mobile Cranes to transport heavy equipment, install, and move oversized loads to complete various projects
• Safely load and unload equipment, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement according to established procedures and regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues.
• Proven knowledge of heavy haul securement techniques and regulations.
• Familiarity with permitting requirements for oversized and overweight loads.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, GPS, and route instructions.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others at all times in accordance with Vulcan standards while operating equipment in and out of the plant.
• Monitor your surroundings when operating equipment in and out of the plant and report any necessary maintenance or adjustments that may be required to ensure safety to your supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities
Education
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience
• Previous experience operating heavy construction equipment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements with clean driving record.
• Knowledge of general principles and practices of operating and servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
• Experience with DOT rules and regulations for transporting heavy equipment is preferred. Experience operating a Lowboy Trailer or Mobile Crane is required.
• Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage reports, and other required documentation.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and other team members regarding schedules, deliveries, and potential issues.
• Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.
Other Requirements
• Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS).
• Physical ability to perform manual labor associated with loading, unloading, and securing equipment.
