THE DISTRICT
School District #6 is located in the famous Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon, nestled between the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges. The area abounds with opportunities - natural, theatrical, musical, educational and athletic. The entire school district is being restructured with an eye toward further improving our already excellent program. Our goal is to add innovative and energetic staff who are committed equally to kids and to educational improvement and who want to be part of creative decision making.
POSITION: School Lab Assistant
HOURS: 7.5 hours per day
BUILDING: Jewett Elementary
CALENDAR: 184 days per year (August - June)
  • COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:
  • $18.25 - $21.94, depending upon approved accepted experience
  • Longevity pay after completion of 6 years of employment
  • Annual COLA pay increase (as negotiated with Oregon School Employees Association)
  • Annual step pay increase awarded to eligible employees
  • 8 paid holidays annually
  • 10 paid sick leave days per year
  • 2 paid personal leave days per year

Lab Support
(School Computer Lab Assistant/Blended Learning Lab/STEAM Lab/School or District Programs)
Purpose: The Lab Support position supports student engagement using a variety of resources and overseeing the daily operation of the lab and guiding students in the proper use of electronic media devices and resources to support learning.
Reports to: Principal or Assistant Principal
Nature of Work: The Lab Support position works independently following standardized routines under general supervision. The nature of the work requires adherence to policies, procedures, and regulations. This job requires frequent interaction with students, staff, and the general public and as such requires a high level of professional decorum and the ability to act as a role model for young people.
Supervision Exercised: No direct supervision exercised.
Interface: Primarily interfaces with students, administrators, teachers, non-licensed school staff, and visitors.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. (This provision may be waived by the school district.)
  • Must possess basic operational knowledge of computer workstations, peripherals, networking and common software products, including productivity suites, internet browsers, and business applications.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and follow multi-step written and verbal instructions in English.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Maintains the daily operations of the lab and/or mobile electronic devices (e.g. computers, laptops, tablets) used in the classroom.
  2. Provides information to individual students and student groups related to basic technology skills and procedures.
  3. Models and reinforces procedures for proper computer use and the use of any equipment, supplies, materials, and software.
  4. Assists administration in developing schedules for the use of school electronic devices and labs for classwork, state testing, and benchmark testing.
  5. Under the general supervision of teachers, oversees groups of students in the use of the lab.
  6. Collaborates with teachers to support classroom learning by facilitating hands-on learning activities in the Lab.
  7. Assist with implementation of school wide programs (e.g. "Character Strong") and lessons that support those programs.
  8. Keeps mobile electronic systems and the lab organized, clean, and in order.
  9. Maintains records of mobile lab usage.
  10. Provides basic computer and software assistance to students, staff and occasionally parents and visitors.
  11. Proctors student statewide assessments and assists in logistical management.
  12. Maintains effective and respectful working relationships with staff and students.
  13. Facilitates student learning in a Blended Learning Lab (BLL - study hall) setting. In BLL, students work on homework, digital courses, or credit retrieval.
  14. Responsible for helping students navigate the technology they need to access school work.
  15. Fulfills a critical role in helping students check progress in their classes and communicate with teachers as needed.
  16. Responsible for taking attendance.

Working Conditions:
The Lab Support role works primarily indoors in a school environment. The position requires regular work at a computer, as well as the ability to write, hear and speak. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, reach and lift up to 50 pounds. Potential exposures may include blood-borne pathogens and sick, injured or agitated students. The position requires high levels of interaction with children from diverse backgrounds, many of whom experience behavior, academic, or physiological challenges.
