Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health)- Galveston, Texas
UTMB Health is a $2.2 billion academic health science center comprised of five hospitals, an extensive network of outpatient clinics, and Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, Public and Population Health, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Our research enterprise spans all schools and ten exceptional centers under the umbrella of three institutes with more than 150 scientists and physician scientists involved in infectious diseases research across campus. UTMB has a long and remarkable history of advancing health sciences education, research, and patient care. It was the first academic health center in Texas and is home to the state's first schools of medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences.
The Community
The UTMB Breast Imaging program spans two exceptional Gulf Coast communities. League City - home of Johnson Space Center-NASA and the hub of the practice - offers outstanding suburban living with top-rated schools, a thriving local economy, and easy access to Houston. Galveston offers a uniquely vibrant historic island community with a rich medical heritage, beautiful beaches, and a distinctive quality of life that is unlike anywhere else in Texas. Together, they offer a rare combination of academic energy, coastal lifestyle, and metropolitan access that is hard to match anywhere in the country.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) seeks a full-time Division Chief and Medical Director of Breast Imaging - a senior academic leader to oversee all clinical operations, education, research, and faculty development across a thriving, well-resourced breast imaging program on the Gulf Coast.
A Program Built for Academic Excellence
  • Four dedicated breast imaging clinics across the coastal Galveston corridor - League City and Galveston campuses are both designated ACR Centers of Excellence in Breast Imaging; satellite clinics in Angleton and Clear Lake are planned for growth
  • Six fellowship-trained breast imaging radiologists with no general radiology duties and no after-hours call - a team fully focused on the subspecialty
  • Two breast imaging fellowship positions and 8 radiology residents per year - a meaningful pipeline for mentorship and educational scholarship
  • State-of-the-art technology: new digital mammography, tomosynthesis, and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) units, plus a mobile breast imaging van extending access to underserved communities
  • Academic appointments tailored to candidates with interests in research, scholarship, or program leadership
  • A large, diverse patient population and proximity to the Texas Medical Center - the world's largest medical complex - supporting clinical trials, outcomes research, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • UTMB actively supports foreign medical graduates in obtaining ABR certification.

Clinical Scope
Candidates should have fellowship training and comprehensive expertise across the full spectrum of breast imaging and procedures: tomosynthesis, diagnostic ultrasound, breast MRI, US-guided, stereotactic/tomosynthesis-guided, and MRIguided biopsies, & pre-surgical localizations. Experience with contrast-enhanced mammography and cryoablation is desired
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Board Certification or Eligibility by the American Board of Radiology
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Texas Medical License
