As a mobile game developer, your job is to help program a game app for people to use on a phone, tablet, or another mobile game player. In this role, you may help set up the intended user experience, coordinate with content providers, and test the software to ensure that all aspects function as intended. Many of the duties and responsibilities of this job depend on the employer. For example, some mobile game developers perform almost all tasks, while others focus on specific parts of the software in order to help maximize content delivery speeds. Many people in this industry work out of offices, but it is possible to work as a remote mobile game developer, especially if you have a high-speed internet connection that can support large game file transfers.

Founded in Toronto over 10 years ago, we've had tremendous success and are poised for another decade of record growth. Our studio is built on strong values, work ethic, and intelligent data driven growth. We work hard, have fun, innovate, and level-up every day.

To work at Clipwire means becoming part of our future right now. We have reached our current growth rate because we support, promote, and develop our team so that they can make great games. Come find out what all the buzz is about!

Role Overview

Clipwire Games is looking for a Mobile Game Illustrator to join our art team and help bring our mobile games to life. In this role, you'll produce mid-complexity 2D assets across a range of game features, events, and live ops content, working confidently and independently within established style guides and asset standards.

You are a fully capable, self-directed artist who is comfortable using both AI and traditional illustration workflows to get great results. You know when to reach for each approach, and you bring good judgement and flexibility to how you work - adapting your process to get the best outcome efficiently without sacrificing quality.

You communicate proactively, manage competing demands well, and build good working relationships across the team. You're developing a strong sense of our game's style and the mobile games ecosystem, and you bring solid problem-solving skills and the initiative to self-direct your work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create mid-complexity 2D assets for in-game features, events, and live ops content
  • Use AI tools to generate assets with minimal supervision, applying good judgement on when AI generation, traditional illustration, or a combination of both will produce the best and most efficient result
  • Efficiently refine and prepare AI-generated outputs to production-ready standard
  • Adhere to established style guides and asset standards with minimal feedback
  • Prepare assets optimised for mobile performance and implementation
  • Collaborate with Art Direction, Product, and Design to align visuals with gameplay and player experience
  • Collaborate with UI/UX designers to support clear, readable, and engaging interfaces
  • Manage competing demands effectively, and communicate risks or blockers openly and in a timely manner
  • Iterate on assets based on feedback, playtests, and live performance data
  • Contribute to art guidelines and workflows to support team consistency and efficiency
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 2-4 years of experience as a 2D artist in games or a closely related interactive medium
  • Strong grasp of our game style and the broader mobile games ecosystem
  • Strong sense of stylisation, rendering, colour and composition
  • Comfortable using both AI tools and traditional illustration methods - with the judgement to determine which approach (or combination) is optimal for a given task
  • Experience working with AI image generation tools and refining outputs to production quality
  • Ability to take ownership of clearly defined tasks and deliver polished work with minimal supervision
  • Reliably delivers quality assets on schedule; able to self-direct and manage competing priorities
  • Solid problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to flagging blockers and suggesting solutions
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate)
  • Experience working on live games or live-ops content is an asset
  • A portfolio demonstrating illustration quality and the ability to work within an established visual style
