City Haul, Inc. is a family-owned and operated Intermodal drayage company with centrally located terminals serving major intermodal hub locations in the Chicago area. We specialize in import and export container freight as well as domestic intermodal. Our fleet of company tractors and drivers, as well as owner-operators, are ELD compliant and operate within a 250-mile radius of Chicago. We are hazmat certified and bonded and have a private tri-axle chassis pool. We also offer overweight services for international cargo in Illinois and Indiana.

Role Description


We are seeking a professional CDL-A Driver to transport shipping containers between ports, rail yards, warehouses, and customer facilities. This position is ideal for experienced drivers who thrive on responsibility, safety, and reliability in every mile.

What You’ll Do:

· Haul intermodal containers on short-haul and regional routes.

· Pick up and deliver freight to ports, rail yards, and customer facilities.

· Secure containers to intermodal chassis per DOT and company standards.

· Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report issues promptly.

· Follow designated routes and FMCSA Hours of Service regulations.

· Safely handle hazardous materials, reefers, and specialized loads as needed.

· Upload required documentation (BOLs, PODs, inspection photos) via ELD or dispatch system.

· Maintain professionalism, communication, and safety at all times.

What We’re Looking For:

· Operate tractor-trailers to haul shipping containers for short-haul and regional routes.

· Valid CDL-A license with current DOT medical certification.

· Minimum age 23 with a clean driving record.

· 2+ years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience, preferably in intermodal or regional freight.

· Familiarity with ELD systems and mobile dispatch platforms.

· Knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service, and cargo securement.

· Strong attention to detail, safety, and communication.

· Must be able to work up to 14-hour shifts and 70 hours per week as permitted.

Required Skills & Abilities:

· Strong understanding of intermodal and freight transport operations.

· Ability to perform and document vehicle inspections accurately.

· Competence in using mobile and electronic logging systems.

· Clear communication and attention to safety protocols.

· Capability to manage time effectively and maintain delivery schedules.

Education & Experience:

· Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience, preferably in intermodal, port, or regional freight operations.

· Experience with container chassis operations, including securing, locking, and inspection of containers.

· Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and mobile dispatch or tracking systems preferred.

· Prior experience hauling hazardous materials (HazMat) and operating refrigerated (reefer) units is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to sit for extended periods, climb into and out of vehicles, and lift up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to bend, stoop, and perform manual inspections of equipment.

· Tolerance for outdoor work in varying weather and yard conditions typical of port and rail environments.
