Job description

Company Description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Job Description

The senior mobile application developer is responsible for the hands‑on design, development, and support of mobile applications with a strong focus on react native and native android development. This role combines deep technical execution with technical leadership, ownership of complex features, and active collaboration across product, design, QA, operations, security, and platform teams.

This position reports to the manager of mobile application development and is expected to independently handle complex tasks, influence technical decisions, and mentor other engineers while delivering high‑quality, scalable mobile solutions.

Primary responsibilities

  • Independently design, develop, test, and maintain complex mobile application features using react native and native android
  • Lead the implementation of hybrid and native mobile solutions aligned with the product roadmap
  • Contribute to mobile architecture decisions, design discussions, and technical trade‑off evaluations
  • Collaborate closely with product, UX, human factors, QA, cybersecurity, and backend teams to deliver robust solutions
  • Perform and lead code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and long‑term maintainability
  • Proactively identify technical risks, dependencies, and integration challenges and drive them to resolution
  • Provide production support, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventative improvements
  • Influence and improve development standards, tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and mobile engineering best practices
  • Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through technical guidance, reviews, and knowledge sharing
  • Communicate status, risks, and technical decisions clearly to stakeholders and leadership
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with typically 8+ years of professional software development experience, or master’s degree with 6 years of experience
  • 3+ years of hands‑on react native development with production mobile applications
  • 2+ years of native android development experience
  • Experience building, releasing, and supporting applications in the google play store and apple app store
  • Strong understanding of mobile app architectures, performance considerations, and platform constraints
  • Experience with source control (git), code reviews, automated builds, testing, and release processes
  • Proven ability to independently solve moderate to complex technical problems and know when to escalate

Preferred / Nice to have

  • Experience building and supporting apps translated into other languages and released outside the US
  • Exposure to backend integrations (REST APIs, authentication, offline sync patterns)
  • Experience with enterprise‑scale applications, analytics, monitoring, and observability
  • Experience designing reusable components and shared libraries in react native
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Gitlab CI, CircleCI, or App center) for mobile workflows
  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading feature‑level technical efforts
