We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology and digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!


This role sits in the Retail & Restaurant Commerce Technology organization within Technology & Digital for Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products. It works closely with a diverse team of engineers and service owners from across the company.


The Principal Software Engineer will report to the Director of Software Engineering and will Design and build a highly scalable and distributed system for Disney’s Point of Sale platform . Work on designing the new cloud based real time architecture and implement it with the team considering all the functional requirements .


The Principal Software Engineer will also be responsible and take ownership for reliability, scalability, automation, and important issues related to uptime, availability and fast rate of improvement of Disney’s Point of Sale platform . Our goal is to build and guard the systems that delights our guests and cast members with watchful eye on resiliency, scalability and performance.


What You’ll Do
  • End to end engineering lead responsible for the implementation and automation of the Point of Sale system.


  • Owns and leads large development projects and team where a project comprises multiple components.


  • Identifies new directions and opportunities; champions the development of innovative solutions.


  • Works closely with management and architects to produce highly complex and sophisticated software on design projects that span several groups.


  • Performs strategic research and design for one or more major technical areas.


  • Monitors emerging technologies and proposes the adoption of appropriate new technologies .


  • Uses expert knowledge to develop creative solutions to critical issues and complex design problems.

  • Exercises exceptional judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to resolve issues.

  • Works on unprecedented and exceptionally complex technical issues requiring major vision, creativity and proactive solutions.

  • Overseeing, influencing and mentoring collaborative project teams, inclusive of on-shore and off-shore development resources, key clients, and other technical groups in the organization.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 10+ years of progressively related experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems. 4-6 years of team lead experience.


  • Cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure) experience .


  • Certifications or working experience of ITIL and Agile processes.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Understand and analyze data pipelines, algorithms, and automated systems

  • Basic knowledge integrating cloud-based data pipelines and analytics services

  • Experience with mobile development (Android/iOS native, web apps designed for mobile)

The hiring range for this position in Orlando, FL is $179,500 to $240,600 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
