What is an MMJ (Multi-Media Journalist)?

An MMJ, or Multi-Media Journalist, is a professional in the news industry who is responsible for researching, writing, shooting, and editing their own news stories for television, digital, and social media platforms. Unlike traditional reporters who may work with photographers and editors, MMJs handle every aspect of the storytelling process, often working independently in the field. This role requires strong skills in reporting, video production, and digital editing, as well as the ability to quickly adapt to evolving newsroom technologies and deadlines.
