Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) / Medical Lab Technician (MLT)

Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) / Medical Lab Technician (MLT).

The Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory testing and analysis to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and quality patient care. This position analyzes biological specimens, validates and reports test results, operates and maintains laboratory equipment, and follows established quality control, safety, and infection-control standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with providers and other clinical staff. Placement as an MLT or MLS will be determined based on the selected candidate's education, certification, and qualifications.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical laboratory testing in areas such as chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, immunology, and other assigned disciplines.
  • Collect, process, and analyze blood, urine, body fluids, and other biological specimens using established laboratory procedures.
  • Review laboratory findings for accuracy and identify normal, abnormal, and critical results.
  • Report test results in accordance with clinic protocols and promptly notify providers or clinical staff of critical or abnormal findings.
  • Enter test results and other required information accurately into the applicable laboratory or electronic health record system.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, clean, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure reliable and accurate laboratory results.
  • Maintain accurate specimen, testing, equipment, and quality-control records.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and assist with inventory and ordering as assigned.
  • Follow laboratory policies and applicable safety, confidentiality, infection-control, OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical information regarding laboratory testing and results to providers and authorized clinical staff within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with laboratory operations and provide backup support to laboratory leadership as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Certification

Medical Laboratory Technician—MLT

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or a related qualifying program from an accredited institution.
  • Current MLT certification through ASCP, AMT, or another certification accepted by Tanner Clinic.

Medical Laboratory Scientist—MLS

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or a related qualifying program from an accredited institution.
  • Current MLS certification through ASCP, AMT, or another certification accepted by Tanner Clinic.

Experience

  • Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred.
  • New graduates who meet the applicable education and certification requirements may be considered.

Other Requirements

  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job
