Job Overview:
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to provide clinical laboratory testing services at Keesler Medical Center (KMC), Keesler AFB, Mississippi. The Medical Laboratory Technician supports patient diagnosis and treatment by performing a wide variety of laboratory tests on blood, tissue, and other body fluids.
The MLT works across multiple laboratory departments including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and blood bank to ensure accurate testing results. This role requires maintaining laboratory equipment, performing quality control procedures, and ensuring specimens are properly handled and analyzed. The technician collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely and reliable laboratory data critical to patient care.
General Duties:
  • Clinical Privileges: Provide services within the scope of practice as defined by the MTF.
  • Contractual Obligations: Adhere to all tasks outlined in the contract and Task Order.
Specific Duties:
  • Perform a full range of clinical lab tests in departments like hematology, chemistry, cytology, microbiology, and blood bank.
  • Assess sample suitability and ensure physiological integrity is preserved.
  • Prepare lab reagents and reference materials.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment or testing issues.
  • Conduct quality control and assurance procedures and document findings.
  • Prepare specimens for transport or mail-out.
  • Safely dispose of biological waste per protocols.
Qualifications:
  • Degree: Certificate
  • Education: Graduate of an MLT training program accredited by:
  • National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS),
  • Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or
  • Program recognized by the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • Certification: Certified by ASCP or AMT (as specified in the Task Order)
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience within the past 2 years as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Licensure: As applicable per Task Order
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory procedures and safety standards
  • Experience with various lab instruments and troubleshooting techniques
  • Detail-oriented with excellent documentation and quality control habits
  • Ability to manage samples and prioritize testing workflow efficiently
  • Effective communication with clinical teams regarding results and follow-ups
Schedule:
  • 9-hour workdays (1-hour unpaid lunch), MondayFriday (Between 0700-1800).
  • Blood drives: May require early starts (as early as 3:00 AM) or late days (until 11:59 PM).
  • Some TDY travel required (non-local blood drives).
  • No on-call or holiday work unless assigned in support of blood drive scheduling.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Must meet immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements.
  • Must complete a physical exam and respirator mask fitting, as required.
Work Environment:
  • Clinical lab setting and mobile/outreach blood drives.
  • Personal services environment with day-to-day supervision by military lab leadership.

Security Requirement:
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Background check as per DHA standards
