Senior Product Designer - MLB App, Web and Streaming

Major League Baseball

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Life, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Major League Baseball is reimagining the fan experience-and we believe great design is central to that evolution. Creating the next generation of baseball experiences requires a deep understanding of fans, thoughtful attention to every detail, and a relentless focus on delight at every touchpoint. That's where you come in.

Our mission is simple: transform the way fans connect with, experience, and enjoy the game of baseball.

The Product Design team at Major League Baseball shapes experiences across the entire fan journey-from foundational fan and club research to in-park experiences, digital products, streaming platforms, games, websites, apps, and interactive experiences. We stay close to the trends shaping sports, media, and entertainment while continually raising the bar for usability, innovation, and delight across the MLB ecosystem. Our work is grounded in a fan-first approach to product design, supported by strong investments in design systems, content tooling, and design research.

We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to help define the future of baseball experiences and deliver engaging, innovative products across every stage of the fan journey. Whether a fan is attending a game in person, following along live, or interacting through one of our digital platforms, our team plays a role in shaping that experience. While each designer has areas of focus, collaboration is core to how we work. Team boundaries are intentionally flexible, and you'll regularly partner with designers, researchers, product managers, engineers, and other cross-functional teams on a wide range of opportunities and challenges that extend beyond traditional product design.

Responsibilities

This role will primarily focus on shaping the future of the live game experience across MLB's app, web, and streaming platforms. From pitch-by-pitch storytelling to real-time data, highlights, and immersive second-screen experiences, you'll help define how millions of fans follow and engage with baseball as it happens. This is an exciting opportunity to influence how the game is experienced in real time-creating intuitive, engaging, and emotionally resonant moments that deepen fans' connection to baseball.

  • Partner closely with fellow designers to create new features and experiences centered around the live game experience
  • Contribute across the broader suite of Major League Baseball products, supporting key business initiatives while continuously exploring new and creative ways to delight fans
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, and cross-functional stakeholders to define problems, help shape product strategy, and deliver user-facing solutions that redefine how fans interact with baseball
  • Conduct independent research to inform both foundational thinking and iterative design decisions
  • Work closely with the design systems team to evolve and expand the Basepath product design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across experiences
  • Actively participate in design critiques and reviews, regularly presenting work to peers and product leadership to gather feedback and drive alignment
  • Lead and mentor other designers on the team. We're a lean, highly collaborative group with significant overlap across initiatives, so strong communication, adaptability, and partnership are essential.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing consumer-facing, gaming, sports, or streaming media products
  • Have a strong understanding of baseball, including the statistics, analytics, and insights that shape how fans experience and interpret the game
  • Possess experience designing with large data sets and creating clear, engaging data visualizations
  • Are comfortable taking projects from early ideation through execution, leveraging robust design systems to create scalable, polished experiences. You may have deeper expertise in UX research or visual design, but you're capable and confident working across both
  • Are deeply fan- and detail-oriented. You generate strong ideas, but more importantly, you ensure those ideas are fully realized by obsessing over the details that elevate the final experience
  • Seek out feedback and use it to continuously improve your work. You have experience incorporating both qualitative and quantitative insights into your design process
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, clearly articulating the rationale behind your decisions and presenting work with confidence and clarity
  • Embrace a "show, don't tell" mindset. Your instinct is to prototype, visualize, and bring ideas to life in order to move conversations and products forward
  • Think in systems, understanding how individual features and experiences connect within a broader digital ecosystem
  • Bring a team-first mentality, with a genuine desire to collaborate, learn from others, and inspire those around you
  • 5+ years in digital Product Design or User Experience Design
  • Strong portfolio of shipped products that show data and user-centric decision making and strategy
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of baseball statistics and rules is a plus
