Mixing And Mastering information

What are mixing and mastering in music production?

Mixing and mastering are two crucial steps in the music production process. Mixing involves adjusting and combining individual tracks (like vocals, drums, and instruments) to create a cohesive and balanced sound. Mastering comes after mixing and is the final step to polish the overall track, ensuring consistency, clarity, and optimal loudness across all playback systems. Both processes are essential for producing professional-sounding music that is ready for release.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mixing and mastering engineer?

To thrive as a Mixing and Mastering Engineer, you need a deep understanding of audio engineering principles, critical listening skills, and often a degree or certification in audio production. Mastery of digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Ableton Live, as well as familiarity with plugins and studio hardware, is crucial. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and good communication skills help engineers interpret artists’ visions and deliver high-quality sound. These skills ensure professional, polished audio productions that meet industry standards and satisfy client expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by mixing and mastering engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Mixing and mastering engineers often encounter challenges such as working with poorly recorded tracks, tight deadlines, and meeting diverse client expectations. Effective communication with artists and producers is essential to clarify the desired sound and make revisions efficiently. Additionally, managing ear fatigue by taking breaks and maintaining a well-calibrated listening environment helps ensure consistent, high-quality results. Staying updated with the latest audio technologies and plugin advancements also supports overcoming technical hurdles.

Be part of the story. Help drive the magic of cinema. Deliver excellence.

We're searching for fantastic communicators and team players to join our elite customer services team in the US, supporting the world's biggest films, from localization through to theatrical release - and beyond. As our Account Coordinator you will be supporting your customer's theatrical releases, guiding each title through asset creation, technical production, and delivery pipelines.

This isn't just account coordination- it's the service that launches films to silver screens across the world. You'll be a trusted partner for clients, an orchestrator across teams, and a steady force that keeps complex workflows humming. If you love cinema, love solving puzzles, thrive in fast-paced environments, and know how to make things happen, this is your moment.

What You'll Do

  • Support the journey: As part of an elite team, you'll support your customers theatrical versioning and release - from localization through cinema mastering, theatrical delivery and licensing.

  • Be the connector: Unite Deluxe's creative, technical, and operational teams to ensure clarity, cohesion, and momentum.

  • Champion excellence: Push for top-tier quality across subtitling, audio mixing, picture editing, mastering, QC and delivery.

  • Elevate the workflow: Identify opportunities to streamline processes and share best practices with junior team members to deliver a smoother, smarter operational experience.

  • Exceptional communication skills - you can zoom out for big-picture strategy and zoom in for precise detail.

  • A collaborative mindset and the relationship-building skills to align teams and clients effortlessly.

  • Experience in account management, project management, post-production, localization, or a customer facing position.

  • An understanding of any media workflows is an advantage.

If you're ready to be an integral part of a team delivering service excellence and making every project shine brighter than the last - we want to meet you.
