Job description

Foster Care MIP Interns will be placed in approximately 12 week internships within SCO that will provide interns hands-on job experiences as well as support and guidance from internship mentors. Youth will be matched one-to-one with SCO internship mentors to facilitate successful internship experiences. Internship Mentors will provide valuable insights based on their career experience, educational backgrounds, and challenges they have faced on a professional and personal level.

Interns will work very closely with the MIP Coordinator, with whom they will meet at least once a week. Interns will participate in weekly Career Readiness Seminars and also take part in experiential group activities.  Seminars will support interns:

  • Identify a career goal and develop a career and education plan based on individual strengths and interests.
  • Gain the knowledge and skills needed to transition successfully into the world of work (e.g., how to get jobs, succeed in the workplace, and understand workplace policies).
  • Learn strategies to enhance their workplace relationships and manage challenges (e.g., how to request a workplace accommodation, and how to manage conflict in the workplace).
