Job description

Mechanical Designer โ€“ Mining

In this role, you will be a part of the Mining team, based in the Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, St. Louis, Charleston WV, Houston, Las Vegas, Dallas or Denver office.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Ability to lead a project team of designers forming a multidisciplinary team
  • Produce mechanical layouts and plant design using Microstation V8, E3D, AutoCAD, 2โ€‘D and 3โ€‘D tools for mining projects
  • Extract drawings from a 3โ€‘D model
  • Work and communicate positively within a team
  • Understand project mission, including client requirements
  • Ensure delivery of 3D model and drawings
  • Read, understand, and comment on manufacturer equipment drawings and specifications
  • Check 3D models and drawings developed by others
  • Manage budgets, schedule and deliverables related to the layout
  • Provide mentorship and supervision to the design team
  • Support the systems and tools including the Bentley Suite of software (OpenPlant Modeler, OpenPlant P&ID, etc.)
  • Provide feedback to the Overall Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress with deliverables
  • Engage and coordinate the design with client representatives
  • Participate and assist in proposal preparations
  • Become familiar with EXP standards
What your experience looks like
  • Technical college graduate with North American experience in mining and minerals or similar industries
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in heavy industrial design and layout, ECBM environment preferred
  • Design experience, preferably in the consulting industry (preference for candidates with experience in mineral mining projects)
  • Strong personal commitment to safety and quality
  • Minimum of 4 years experience with Bentley, Openplant, or 3D Microstation
  • Knowledge of project delivery, including activities, interfaces and interdependence of all project disciplines
  • Organized, selfโ€‘motivated, proactive, detailโ€‘oriented, and good communication skills
  • Sound understanding of design, engineering codes and technical standards
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
  • AutoCAD, MicroStation experience required
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes and guidelines and engineering systems coordination
  • Knowledge of miningโ€‘related processes is a definite asset

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $95,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
