The Mine Superintendent at Ferroglobe USA Quartz in Lowndesboro, Alabama is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of quartz mining activities. This role provides leadership to mine operations, maintenance, and technical staff to ensure production targets, cost controls, and quality standards are consistently met while adhering to MSHA regulations and company safety policies. The Mine Superintendent oversees mine planning, equipment utilization, and workforce management, while driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize productivity and asset performance. Strong collaboration with plant operations, engineering, and environmental teams is essential to support Ferroglobe’s commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and employee safety.


What you will do:

  • Oversee day-to-day mining operations, ensuring productivity targets are met or exceeded.
  • Develop and implement efficient mining plans to optimize quartz extraction and processing. Manage the operations and maintenance of the plant. I.E. Wash plant, Power Screen, and Log Washer.
  • Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Personally operates mining equipment as needed, demonstrating expertise and setting operational standards.
  • Champion a culture of safety, ensuring all mining activities adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, training sessions, and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies to maintain compliance and facilitate inspections. Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performance mining team.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on safety protocols, equipment operation, and best practices.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Coordinate with other departments to optimize resource utilization and logistics.
  • Personally operate and supervise the operation of mining equipment to ensure optimal performance.


What we seek:

  • Ability to work on call as needed
  • Current MSHA Certification
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in a supervisory or management role within the mining industry, with a focus on quartz.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance in mining operations. Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient in the use of mining software and technologies.
  • Ability to operate and supervise the operation of various mining equipment.


Working Environment:

  • Performs jobs under varying conditions (dust, oil, grease, hot and humid temperatures, fumes, noise, etc.)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, Floor to waist, Waist to shoulder. Overhead, Carry 20 feet
  • Wears proper PPE in the manufacturing area (shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection)
