Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an Arizona based Project Manager to play a vital role in the Mining, Minerals & Metals Business Line (MMM BL). This position focuses on learning and implementing Stantec's project delivery practices, fostering strong project team and client relationships, and delivering projects with safety and quality in mind. This role requires collaboration with internal technical leaders and industry partners to ensure innovation, efficiency, and excellence in project execution. The successful candidate will manage complex projects including project risk and align business strategies with client needs, contributing to Stantec's mission of delivering cutting-edge solutions in the mining sector.
Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate a competent understanding of Project Management Fundamentals including the relationship between project scope, costs, and schedule, along with other planning elements.
  • Learn and comply with Stantec's Project Management Framework (based on the Project Management Institute's [PMI's] concepts and guidelines, pmi.org).
  • Manage large, multi-disciplinary engineering and feasibility study projects; develop budgets, determine project scope, establish schedules, process required paperwork, and interact with clients.
  • Interface with Stantec Leadership to ensure projects are resourced appropriately with key Stantec technical and management resources.
  • Understand and implement Stantec's Quality Program in partnership with Leadership to ensure the highest standard of project delivery.
  • Identify and resolve project execution gaps. Offer recommendations to improve processes, policies, and procedures at every opportunity to enhance project execution, control, and monitoring.
  • Support Leadership in resource management processes, recruitment, succession planning, and coaching/mentoring for PMs and project leaders.
  • Drive client satisfaction by building a culture of excellence and accountability within Stantec's project management community. Lead effective application of corporate standards. Demonstrate proficient business awareness and acumen.
  • Follow Stantec's risk management practices and procedures by developing risk profiles and registers for projects and preparing for internal risk reviews of major projects.
  • Achieve utilization (billable time) target as agreed annually (initial expectation for utilization in the range of 60%-80%).
  • Mentor, develop, and build younger and less experienced staff as required.
  • Maintain and enhance Stantec's reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as a top service provider.

Qualifications:
Project Management Mastery
  • Ability to develop and manage a variety of project scopes of work related to mining.
  • Expertise in scheduling, project controls, and document management to enhance project efficiency.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk assessment frameworks to mitigate project delivery risks.
  • Capability to identify deviations in scope, schedule, and budget, and implement corrective actions as needed.

Strategic Leadership & Execution
  • Proven ability to drive project success through process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to navigate complex project challenges.
  • Ability to lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across global regions with confidence and clarity.

Industry Knowledge & Technical Expertise
  • Experience in industrial and mining projects, including financial and operational insights.
  • Familiarity with contract structures, pricing models, and strategic resource allocation.
  • Strong QA/QC expertise with attention to detail to ensure high-quality project outcomes.
  • Health and Safety (H&S) minded, focused and motivated to ensure H&S requirements are in place and adopted by project teams, as applicable. Able to implement client H&S specific protocols as well.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to foster strong client relationships.

Education and Experience
  • Industry Experience: 10+ years in mining or industrial projects. Experience in mine planning, optimizing extraction strategies and resource management a plus. Consulting background ideal.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in mining, civil, geotechnical engineering, or geoscience.
  • Project Management: PMI's Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

5-10+ years of experience managing medium-to-large-scale projects.
  • Operational & Cost Optimization: Proven ability to enhance project operations and improve cost efficiency.
