Job description
If you are someone passionate about safety and helping to ensure safety is part of a manufacturing culture, Harrison Steel has a great opening for you: Safety Manager. The individual will complete facility walk-throughs each day and review current Safety practices, to determine needed improvements, and to develop trainings and programs. The individual must be highly skilled at self-management and have the ability to take ownership of assigned projects.
We prefer a Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field or three years of recent, related experience or training. An equivalent combination of both may be substituted. At minimum, candidates with significant Safety experience must possess a high school diploma. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and particularly Excel is required. Experience using Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated recordkeeping applications or other governmental forms preferred. Excellent communication ability is required, in writing and presentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures compliance with the OSHA and IndianaOSHA standards, procedures and policies. Keeps up-to-date on OSHA/government requirements related to health and safety mandates
- Conducts periodic safety reviews of all plant operations; determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; actively contributes to the Safety Committee program; interprets changes for safety-related Code of Federal Regulations and is responsible for applying them accurately
- Manages the implementation of employee safety programs and procedures, and is responsible for their annual review. Assists in their development and presentation, as needed
- Tracks all injury-related statistical records, looking for trends and areas for improvement; identifies and suggests solutions for problems
- When the Safety Manager is absent, this individual directs, coordinates and evaluates the Safety department
- Ability with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability with use of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions in practical situations
- Must have strong communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and change management skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and vibration. Also exposure to outdoor weather conditions, non-weather related extreme heat, water and humidity, and the risk of electrical shock. The usual noise level is very loud. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
