About Us - We are a leading electrical and mechanical contractor based in Holly, MI, just north of Detroit, with a team of approximately 65 employees. Our core focus is commercial electrical construction (60-70% of our work), specializing in tenant buildouts, new construction, multi-family housing, and Level 2 and Level 3 EV charger installations. Our robust residential service department accounts for 30% of our work, providing residential electrical services, EV charging solutions, and generator installations. We also handle wastewater, industrial, and renewable energy projects. As a licensed Mechanical Contractor, we are poised to expand our mechanical services to complement our residential offerings. Operating from a warehouse and a fenced storage lot nearby, we are seeking a dedicated Shop Hand to streamline our operations.Job Summary We are seeking an organized and motivated Shop Hand to manage our warehouse and fenced storage lot. The ideal candidate is an experienced electrician, possibly semi-retired, with a desire to remain productive and earn income. This role requires mechanical aptitude, familiarity with electrical, EV charging, and generator equipment, basic vehicle maintenance skills, and knowledge of heavy equipment and trailer operations. Proficiency with computers and technology is essential for inventory tracking and communication. The position involves supporting loading and delivery of materials for commercial projects (e.g., tenant buildouts, multi-family housing) and residential services (e.g., generators, EV chargers). This is a full-time role with some scheduling flexibility, with the potential to develop into a fully established full-time position as responsibilities grow.


Key Responsibilities


  • Organize and Stock: Sort, store, and maintain inventory in the warehouse and fenced storage lot, including hand tools, electrical materials, EV charger components, generator equipment, wire pulling equipment, ladders, scaffolds, and job leftovers.
  • Identify Waste: Evaluate materials to determine what should be scrapped, returned to suppliers, or saved for future projects, including those for commercial buildouts and residential generator installations.
  • Inventory Management: Track and document inventory using computer-based systems to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
  • Key Control: Manage vehicle keys and ensure secure storage and access.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks (e.g., checking fluids, tire pressure, and scheduling repairs) for company vehicles.
  • Cleaning and Upkeep: Maintain a clean and orderly warehouse and fenced storage lot.
  • Equipment Handling: Safely operate tools, heavy equipment (e.g., skidsteers, mini excavators, backhoes, trenchers), and trailers as needed for organization, maintenance, and material transport tasks.
  • Loading and Delivery Support: Assist with loading and securing materials for delivery to commercial sites (e.g., tenant buildouts, new construction, multi-family housing) and residential projects (e.g., generator installations, EV chargers).
  • Trailer Operations: Secure and tow trailers containing equipment or materials when required.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Prior experience as an electrician or in a related trade, with strong knowledge of electrical tools, materials, EV charging equipment (Level 2 and Level 3 chargers), and generator systems.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Proven ability to perform basic mechanical tasks, including vehicle maintenance and equipment repairs; familiarity with mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Heavy Equipment Knowledge: Experience with skidsteers, mini excavators, backhoes, trenchers, or similar equipment is highly desirable.
  • Trailer Skills: Ability to tow and secure trailers is strongly encouraged.
  • Technology Skills: Comfortable using computers for inventory tracking, email, and basic documentation (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar software).
  • Licensing: Valid driver’s license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is not required but beneficial.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in an outdoor storage lot, and perform tasks requiring bending, standing, and climbing.
  • Soft Skills: Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Preferred: Experience in the electrical contracting industry, particularly with EV charger installations, generator systems, or commercial construction (tenant buildouts, multi-family housing).
