Job description

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company's portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Mine General Supervisor, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for directing the assistant mine supervisors in their execution of the mine plan with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.
Essential Functions
1. Assign crews and equipment to specific tasks in order to meet daily mine production goals as per mine planning.
2. Supervise crew activities during shifts to ensure safe and efficient accomplishment of assignments.
3. Develop crew skills to levels of maximum efficiency and safety.
4. Address individual and team issues on a timely basis and in an appropriate manner.
5. Discuss daily priorities and production goals with the Mine General Supervisor & Assistant Mine Supervisors to implement and maintain the current mining plan including mining, drill and blast, and projects.
6. Responsible for management of assistant supervisors including communicate daily production requirements and availability of employees and equipment.
7. Monitor equipment availability, production priorities based on the availability, and triage with Maintenance to set priorities for repairs and production.
8. Assist in the recruitment of new personnel and work closely with Human Resources to maintain adequate crew levels.
9. Ensure training, opportunities, feedback, and discipline are provided to all personnel in a fair and consistent manner.
10. Conduct safety meetings and participate in daily-lineouts.
11. Conduct Accident or incident investigations.
12. Clearly define the expectations for all employees.
13. Engagement in all safety related programs, including influencing the hourly workforce to get involved.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
1. It is important that the incumbent foster team spirit among crew members, motivating them to meet safe production goals.
2. Must have a strong understanding of mining techniques, equipment, materials, and procedures.
3. Must show careful attention to planning in order to reduce inefficiencies.
4. Must be able to adapt to changing conditions throughout the shift.
5. Must inspect and evaluate work areas to meet safety guidelines.
6. Requires five years of heavy equipment operating experience in a mining or construction environment. (A mining related degree may be substituted for equipment operating experience.)
7. Two years of direct supervisory experience in a mine production environment.
8. Additional supervisory experience is a plus.
9. Requires valid driver's license.
