Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated staff geotechnical to support surface mining, mine waste storage and heavy civil infrastructure design and analysis as part of the growing AECOM Mining Division. The candidate will have broad experience in supporting surface mining operations and the design and evaluation of waste rock storage, heap and run of mine leaching and tailings storage facilities.

Job Summary/ Responsibilities:

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of broader assignments
  • Plans, directs and performs specific and/or moderate portions of mid- to large, complex projects under the supervision of an experienced senior engineer.
  • Plans, implements, performs and oversees geotechnical exploration and laboratory testing programs (30% travel/field time)
  • Plans, overseas and performs geotechnical evaluations including material characterization, liquefaction, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses
  • Prepares and reviews calculation packages
  • Assisting with the development of geotechnical reports, drawings and specifications
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations of evaluation results to internal and client teams
  • Review of geotechnical instrumentation and preparation of instrumentation monitoring reports
Qualifications

Min Requirements

  • BA/BS + 4 yrs of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency or experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS + 6 yrs of relevant experience
  • MA/MS Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Proficient in the use of industry software such as GeoStudio, Grapher and AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Proficient in the characterization of mine waste materials
  • Field/Construction experience; tailings or dams experience a plus
  • Familiarity with and preparing design reports, drawings and specifications
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility
  • Resourceful, highly organized, and detail oriented
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Effective time-management and interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
