SUMMARY

The Quality Inspection Team Lead is a working lead responsible for coordinating quality inspection activities across the assigned shift. This position performs advanced inspection work while providing day-to-day guidance, training, workflow coordination, and hands-on support to Quality Inspectors and production team members.

The Team Lead helps the team operate safely and efficiently, in accordance with customer requirements, IPC workmanship standards, and internal procedures. Responsibilities include providing coverage during absences, onboarding and training employees, ensuring completion of required training, coaching team members, resolving quality and process issues, and partnering with the Shift Supervisor, Quality, Production, and Engineering when escalation or additional support is needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serves as a working lead and actively participates in the team’s daily operations.
  • Performs advanced visual inspections of printed circuit boards, electronic components, subassemblies, box-build assemblies, and incoming materials using Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), magnification lamps, microscopes, and other inspection tools.
  • Performs inspections across Surface Mount Technology (SMT), modifications, through-hole, final, and rework inspection processes.
  • Reads and interprets customer specifications, drawings, bills of material, job travelers, work instructions, and quality documentation; translates those requirements into inspection criteria and product-conformance decisions.
  • Verifies products against IPC-A-610 workmanship standards, customer requirements, and internal quality documentation.
  • Accurately records inspection results and maintains complete, accurate, and traceable inspection records in FactoryLogix or other required systems.
  • Identifies, documents, and communicates defects, nonconforming product, documentation gaps, and process concerns.
  • Escalates recurring defects and quality concerns to Quality, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or other appropriate support teams.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes the team’s day-to-day activities and workflow based on production needs.
  • Provides hands-on coverage during employee absences, workload increases, and other production needs.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally to identify, document, troubleshoot, and resolve quality and process issues.
  • Ensures all required training is completed and documented across the assigned shift, including:
  • Providing X-ray safety and equipment operation training.
  • Delivering IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) certification training.
  • Leads new-employee onboarding and coordinates training for new hires.
  • Provides real-time coaching, guidance, and technical support to Quality Inspectors and production team members.
  • Mentors team members in inspection techniques, documentation practices, customer requirements, quality procedures, and process adherence.
  • Provides timely, job-related performance feedback regarding team members to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Participates in internal quality audits, problem-solving initiatives, Lean activities, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Adheres to process documentation and partners with process owners to improve quality, efficiency, and process consistency.
  • Champions safety and 6S standards throughout production workspaces.
  • Partners with fellow leads to provide operational coverage during the Shift Supervisor’s absence.
  • Maintains regular onsite attendance. Because the essential duties of this position can only be performed onsite, regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility. However, the Quality Inspection Team Lead provides day-to-day functional leadership, training, workflow coordination, and oversight for Quality Inspector I – III, Assemblers, WAVE and Selective Solder Machine Operators, and Rework Specialists.

  • Strong critical-thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a collaborative approach to resolving issues.
  • Strong workflow coordination and prioritization skills with the ability to remain effective as assignments and business needs change.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, adaptability, and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer and data-entry proficiency, including the ability to navigate company systems, email, online training, HRIS applications, electronic inspection records, and other systems required to support daily responsibilities.
