Job description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Skilled Tradesman reports to the Director of Construction Services and is responsible for providing installation and support of skilled carpentry, construction, and painting in a healthcare setting.ย  The position requires the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks in the construction field such as designing, fabricating, and installing millwork and specialty furnishings.ย  The position also requires the ability to perform light range tasks necessary for construction projects in other trades such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

  • Read prints regularly for constructionย 
  • Assist in ensuring that the hospitalโ€™s repairs and installations follow appropriate code and keep up with the changes
  • Ability to work with wood, metal, and other materials to complete a project
  • Always strives to maintain and install work in a neat, organized, and efficient manner
  • Must be capable of performing many tasks that require measuring, sizing, and cutting
  • Serve as a resource for the department
  • Must be comfortable working with machinery and power tools
  • Informs supervisor of status of work or update on completion of projects
  • Always realizing your work environment and following infection control protocols
  • Responsible for demo and installation of all commercial flooring systems appropriate to codes and standards of healthcare construction
  • Responsible for demo, layout, constructing, and installation of ceilings, walls, painting, and millwork appropriate to codes and standards of healthcare construction
  • Assist in keeping sufficient inventory of building materials
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and maintaining project schedules
  • Ability to be a team player and work well with others
  • Other renovation duties and responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years construction experience preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years prior healthcare work experience preferred
  • Strong skills in all aspects of construction
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to think strategically and efficiently
  • High level of maturity to manage confidential information in a healthcare setting
