A place where bold ideas are welcomed, human connection is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their future.
A career at Equinix means being at the center of shaping what comes next and amplifying customer value through innovation and impact. You'll work across teams, influence key decisions, and help shape the path forward. You'll find belonging, purpose, and a team that welcomes you-because when you feel valued, you're empowered to do your best work.
Program Overview
Equinix is proud to support the SkillBridge program and is seeking transitioning service members with strong cyber, software, or security engineering backgrounds to join our Digital Information Security Engineering team.
This SkillBridge opportunity is designed for hands-on cyber professionals who build, automate, and engineer security capabilities, not just operate tools. Participants will work alongside senior engineers on real production systems, gaining direct exposure to how security is designed and scaled at a global technology infrastructure company.
What You'll Work On During SkillBridge
As a SkillBridge Staff Security Engineer, you will contribute directly to Equinix's security platform and automation initiatives, including:
Security Platforms & API Engineering
  • Design, build, and secure APIs that expose core security capabilities to internal teams and platforms
  • Implement authentication, authorization, logging, rate limiting, and abuse protections at the API layer
  • Work with API gateways, service-to-service communications, and platform integrations
  • Produce engineering-grade documentation including runbooks, SDK guidance, and operational references
Automation & Secure Engineering (Core Focus)
  • Build Python-based automation to streamline security workflows, data ingestion, and response actions
  • Develop integrations, plugins, and middleware connecting security tools, SaaS platforms, and internal services
  • Embed security controls directly into CI/CD pipelines (such as GitHub Actions)
  • Improve reliability, observability, and scale of security systems through code
Engineering Leadership Exposure
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and product teams across globally distributed environments
  • Contribute to coding standards, architectural decisions, and engineering best practices
  • Learn how business, platform, and security requirements intersect in a large enterprise environment
Ideal Military Backgrounds
This SkillBridge opportunity is ideal for transitioning service members with experience in:
  • Cyber Operations, Defensive Cyberspace Operations, or Cyber Warfare
  • Software development, automation, or tooling in operational environments
  • Platform, service, or systems engineering with a security focus

Common-but not required-military specialties include:
  • Army: 17D, 17C, 25D, 170D
  • Air Force / Space Force: 1B4X1, 1D7X1Z (Software Development Ops), 1D7X1D
  • Navy: CWT / CTN
  • Marine Corps: 1721

Equivalent experience matters more than job titles.
Skills & Experience That Translate Well
You may be a strong fit if your military experience includes:
  • Writing Python or other automation scripts for operational or security use
  • Building or integrating REST APIs
  • Securing applications, services, or platforms
  • Working with CI/CD pipelines or automated testing
  • Developing internal tools, dashboards, or operational capabilities
  • Operating in joint, mission-critical, or globally distributed environments

Security certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CCSP, GIAC) are valued but not required.
What You'll Gain
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-scale security engineering
  • Exposure to modern DevSecOps and platform-based security
  • Mentorship from senior and staff-level engineers
  • A clear understanding of how military cyber skills translate to industry
  • Opportunity for full-time employment consideration upon SkillBridge completion
Eligibility Requirements
  • Approved for participation in the DoD SkillBridge program
  • Able to commit to a full-time SkillBridge engagement
  • Command approval prior to start date
