Job description

About the Position: Supervise a team overhauling and repairing highly complex equipment, including diesel-electric locomotives, gantry cranes, electrical power generation sets, and heavy construction vehicles. Utilize computerized maintenance systems (FEM) to plan work, manage contractor support, and oversee depot safety.Qualifications:Who May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job. Ability to supervise the work of Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanics demonstrated by my experience rebuilding, overhauling, repairing, or modifying a wide range of highly complex heavy mobile and rail equipment, such as heavy construction and earth moving vehicles, locomotives, cranes, or electrical power generation sets. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Ability To Lead or Supervise
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Trouble Shooting
  • Use of Measuring Instruments
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Very frequently lifts, positions and carries items weighing 75 pounds. Items weighing in excess of 75 pounds are normally lifted by more than one person or moved with mechanical devices. Work involves prolonged standing on asphalt or concrete surfaces, stooping, work in confined spaces, and working in cramped or awkward positions.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a shop environment and frequently out of doors subject to adverse weather conditions. Work environment includes exposure to intermittent noise, dust and dirt, grease and oils, and use of chemical solvents. Posted safety hazards include eye, foot and hearing hazardous areas. Safety equipment to include safety toed shoes, face shields, protective aprons, gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs and hearing protective devices are issued for hazard abatement, required for use during each actual exposure to hazardous work conditions.
