What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Military Base Barber, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Military Base Barber, you need a state-issued barber license, proficiency in haircutting techniques, and familiarity with military grooming standards. Expertise with barbering tools such as clippers, shears, and sanitization equipment is essential, along with knowledge of appointment or point-of-sale systems. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under time constraints distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure consistent, regulation-compliant haircuts while providing excellent service to military personnel in a disciplined environment.

What are the unique challenges of working as a barber on a military base compared to a civilian barbershop?

Working as a barber on a military base often involves adhering to strict grooming standards and regulations set by the armed forces, which may differ from civilian styles. You’ll frequently perform high-volume, quick haircuts, especially during basic training cycles or inspection periods. Additionally, the clientele is highly diverse, and you’ll need to be comfortable working with people from various backgrounds and branches of service. Collaboration with military personnel and understanding the importance of discipline and punctuality are also key aspects of the role.

What are Military Base Barbers?

Military base barbers are professional barbers who provide haircuts and grooming services to military personnel on or near military installations. Their primary role is to ensure that service members comply with the strict grooming standards required by their branch of the armed forces. Military base barbers are familiar with the specific haircut regulations for different ranks and units, and they often work in high-volume, fast-paced environments. In addition to serving active-duty members, they may also provide services to veterans, dependents, and civilian employees on base.

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
