Description:

DEFINITION:

The Alternative Education Program (AEP) Teacher's Aide is employed for part time services at the discretion of the President. The AEP Teacher's Aide is employed to provide services to students during the school calendar term. The AEP Teacher's Aide serves under the direct supervision of the Dean of Students, the Program Manager and the Regional Director. The AEP Teacher's Aide provides direct service to AEP students.


TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The AEP Teacher's Aide tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Assist the Dean of Students and/or Teachers in the daily operation of the AEP in accordance with the Agency Manual.
  2. Assist the AEP Teachers in performing testing and evaluation of new students.
  3. Assist in the maintenance of student attendance and discipline records.
  4. Verify the reasons for student absences and provide notification to the Dean of Students, Program Manager, parent, and referring District.
  5. Serve as an Advisor to students assigned to caseload and prepare appropriate paperwork as assigned.
  6. Establish and maintain professional relationships with parents, referring districts and other involved professionals regarding communication and student progress.
  7. Assist the AEP Teachers in the teaching and supervision of students as needed.
  8. Assist the AEP Teachers in correcting student tests and recording test scores.
  9. Assist in the supervision of student lunch time, breaks, and detention.
  10. Assist in the completion of the curriculum inventory and/or researching curriculum_
  11. Handle all student information in a confidential manner and keep student files updated.
  12. Assist in the transportation of students to and from programming where applicable.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students, Teachers, or Program Manager.
Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to complete and pass training in Safe Crisis Management and to implement its practices and techniques in accordance with Agency policy.
  2. Ability to handle dealing with runaway and aggressive youth in accordance with Agency policy.
  3. Ability to drive company transpo1iation vehicles.
  4. Ability to complete and pass training in First Aid and CPR.


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  1. Possess knowledge of basic child growth and educational development.
  2. Possess adequate verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Follow Agency policies and procedures regarding the implementation of Normative Systems, Relationship-based Cognitive Behavorial Theory, Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation.
  4. Ability to comprehend and abide by the Agency Code of Ethics.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of high school diploma or GED. Proof of high school diploma or GED is required.
  2. Previous experience working in an educational setting or with adolescents is preferred.
  3. Must be 21 years of age or older.
