Come join our Infrastructure Platforms (IP) team where you will play a key role in leading daily server administration and maintaining WCB Alberta's enterprise infrastructure environment, including Disaster Recovery, VMware, Windows Server, Linux, HPE server platforms, enterprise storage, and related systems and middleware technologies. Reporting to the Team Lead, Infrastructure Platforms, the IT Specialist will bring strong hands-on expertise in enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, server, storage, systems management, and automation, while contributing to the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies. As WCB Alberta continues to explore and adopt Generative AI capabilities, the role will also contribute to the infrastructure and platform capabilities required to securely support AI models, workloads, and related services within the enterprise environment
You will provide high-level technical consultation to clients on technical and business projects and lead hardware and software technical assurance, implementation, packaging, and distribution. Key to your success will be your ability to solve complex technical problems, introduce innovative solutions, and create and improve documentation, standards, and procedures that enhance the reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) of WCB Alberta's infrastructure.
Your responsibilities:
- Act as primary SME (subject matter expert) for areas IP team is covering.
- Bring forward new ideas and innovation to enhance the team and business processes.
- Lead problem resolution for complex technical issues across BTS (Business Technology Services) and business units.
- Identify technical trends and training requirements for technologies related to IP team coverage.
- Lead and perform technology implementation adhering to change management practices.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve hardware and software related issues.
- Participate in on-call rotation. You may be contacted outside of business hours for emergency response.
Your experience and skills:
- Graduate from a university or institute of technology in a computer related discipline.
- Experience with GPU-enabled infrastructure, AI compute platforms, or technologies used to provision and manage accelerated workloads.
- Strong and demonstrated advisory level of knowledge and current hands-on experience on Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, and related Microsoft Azure services.
- Several years hands-on experience as Server Admin providing technical support on Windows server, storage, network, and system management tools.
- Expertise in server administration and management: hardware provisioning, storage management, Windows server builds, Active Directory, VMware host deployment and management, backup and recovery, server monitoring and alerting.
- Automation using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Ansible, YAML, PowerCLI, etc. Experience with VMware vRealize suite (Automation, Orchestration, Operation Manager and SaltStack) would be an asset.
- Building Infrastructure as code using Terraform to deploy resources into Azure.
- Experience with administration of Microsoft 365 platform including Microsoft PowerApps and Power Automate would also be an asset.
- Proficiency in System Management technologies like Active Directory, RightFax, Citrix, PRTG, Cisco IP Telephony, and HPE server and management products would be an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as excellent client service skills.
- Previous project management experience would be an asset.
