Middle School Tutor Upper Manhattan & The Bronx, NY Position Overview

Prep Academy Tutors of Upper Manhattan & The Bronx is seeking dedicated, enthusiastic, and compassionate Middle School Tutors to support students in grades 68. Our tutors provide personalized, one-on-one instruction that helps young learners build strong academic foundations, develop confidence, and achieve meaningful progress.

This is an excellent opportunity for certified teachers, education students, reading and math specialists, and experienced middle school educators who are passionate about helping children succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring for middle school students (Grades 68)
  • Support foundational skills in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and other middle school subjects
  • Assist students with homework completion, study habits, and organizational skills
  • Develop individualized learning plans based on student needs and goals
  • Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with families
  • Create a positive, engaging, and encouraging learning environment
  • Travel to students' homes throughout Upper Manhattan and/or The Bronx 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or teaching certification preferred
  • Experience teaching or tutoring middle school-aged students
  • Strong understanding of middle school curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Ability to engage young learners and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Reliable transportation for in-person tutoring assignments
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Schedule & Availability

Tutoring sessions typically take place:

Requirements

Qualified applicants will hold a bachelor's degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a valid New York State teaching certificate (or equivalent)
  • Are currently completing a teacher education program and pursuing certification
  • Have two or more years of classroom teaching experience in a public, private, or charter school
  • Have experience as a lecturer or course instructor at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Are a Master's or PhD student with teaching assistant experience at an accredited U.S. college or university
  • Have significant experience tutoring middle school-aged students and demonstrated success supporting academic growth
