What are the primary challenges faced by professionals in Mid Market Solutions roles, and how can they overcome them?

Professionals in Mid Market Solutions often face the challenge of balancing complex client needs with scalable, standardized offerings. Since mid-market clients typically require more customization than small businesses but have tighter budgets than enterprise clients, solutions specialists must be adept at tailoring products while maintaining efficiency. Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration are essential to align internal teams and deliver value. Staying current with product updates and industry trends also helps in proactively addressing client concerns and fostering long-term relationships.

What are Mid Market Solutions?

Mid Market Solutions refer to products, services, or software designed specifically to meet the needs of medium-sized businesses. These solutions bridge the gap between offerings for small businesses, which may lack advanced features, and enterprise-level products, which can be too complex or costly. Mid Market Solutions often focus on scalability, ease of integration, and cost-effectiveness, providing the right balance of functionality and support. Companies in this segment look for solutions that help them grow efficiently without the resource constraints of larger enterprises.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid-Market Solutions Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid-Market Solutions Manager, you need strong sales acumen, deep understanding of mid-market customer needs, and experience in solution selling, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, sales enablement tools, and industry-specific software is typically required. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills help you stand out in managing complex client accounts. These competencies enable you to effectively identify client challenges, tailor solutions, and drive business growth in a competitive market.

Job description

At Submittable, we are transforming how organizations create social impact. Our platform empowers thousands of mission-driven organizations, from nonprofits to government entities, to make a difference in their communities and beyond. In 2024, our innovative software helped organizations worldwide run 30,000 programs, welcomed 1.2 million applicants, and facilitated the distribution of more than $10 billion in funding through our products on behalf of our clients.
We are on a mission to help organizations accelerate their impact, so we are proud to partner with organizations focused on Equity & Social Justice, Children & Education, Creative & Arts, Health & Wellness, Economic Justice & Opportunity, and Environment & Climate. At Submittable, technology and purpose converge, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change.
We are looking for a Solutions Engineer to join our team at Submittable. In this dynamic, customer-facing role, you'll bring technical expertise, strategic vision, and a collaborative approach to help our Mid-Market Nonprofit and Corporate customers achieve their goals. You will partner closely with our Mid-Market Sales Team to drive opportunities forward, deliver engaging product demonstrations, and shape deployments of our Grants Management solution. We're looking for candidates who combine technical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for creating meaningful change.
This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Solutions Engineering.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Be a Trusted Advisor: Partner with prospects, customers, and stakeholders to ensure our solutions align with their technical and strategic goals, providing insights and recommendations that enhance both implementation and long-term outcomes
  • Own the Technical Sales Process: Lead technical discovery, deliver compelling demos, build proofs of concept, and drive technical evaluations - ensuring seamless handoffs to Implementation and Customer Success teams
  • Create Strategic Solutions: Design tailored solutions that demonstrate the transformative potential of Submittable's Grants Management products for nonprofit and corporate customers
  • Foster Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to deliver holistic, scalable solutions
  • Own Pre-Sales Documentation & SOWs: Lead the creation of high-quality pre-sales documentation and Statements of Work that accurately scope projects and set customers up for success
  • Maintain Expert-Level Platform Knowledge: Become a true product expert - understanding how Submittable's solutions solve customer problems and deliver value, with a commitment to continuous self-learning
  • Inspire Action: Represent Submittable at conferences, webinars, and external engagements to highlight our mission and showcase the impact of our solutions
  • Build Domain Expertise: Develop and maintain knowledge of our markets, competitors, industry-wide challenges, and ongoing trends

What We're Looking For
  • 1+ years in a solutions engineering, solutions consulting, technical sales, or implementation role in SaaS environments (business software, grants management, or similar), with a focus on customer impact.
  • Proficiency in web technologies and familiarity with APIs, integrations, and cloud platforms
  • Exceptional skills in presenting, writing, and explaining technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Experience in competitive sales motions; familiarity with MEDDPICC or equivalent value-selling frameworks is a strong plus
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, fostering trust and partnership with customers and internal teams
  • A track record of thriving in fast-paced, evolving environments
  • A self-starter ready to dive in on day one

Location: This is a remote, U.S.-based role and you must live and reside in the U.S. full-time.
Compensation: The annual On-Target Earnings (OTE) for this position is $96,000 - $120,000 with a pay mix of approximately 80/20 (base/variable). Base salary range is $80,000 - $100,000, with a variable target of $16,000 - $20,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
We are interested in every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States; however, we cannot accommodate scholastic or employment visas at this time. In addition, we are not able to consider applicants who reside in the following states: Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
