Job Title: Pharmacist in Charge – Retail Pharmacy
Location: Galena, Illinois (On-site)

About the Opportunity

Join a brand-new retail pharmacy in Galena, IL as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC). You will lead all pharmacy operations, supervise pharmacy technicians, and ensure safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care to the local community. This role is ideal for an experienced retail pharmacy leader who wants ownership, stability, and a weekday schedule with on-site parking.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately and safely in accordance with provider prescriptions.​

  • Review prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, drug interactions, and legal compliance.​

  • Organize the pharmacy for efficient workflow and fast product identification.​

  • Maintain control of medication inventory, including ordering, stocking, labeling, and monitoring for expiration or deterioration.​

  • Provide clear counseling, education, and advice to patients regarding medications and therapies.​

  • Maintain complete and accurate patient profiles and medication histories.​

  • Stay current with HIPAA requirements and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse credentialing.​

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local pharmacy laws, regulations, and standards.

  • Ensure all pharmacy staff follow facility policies and procedures.​

  • Direct the daily work of pharmacy technicians, including workflow oversight and performance input.​

  • Manage pharmacy technician schedules and coordinate requests for leave and accommodations with senior management.​

  • Perform additional duties as needed to support safe and efficient pharmacy operations.​


Required Education & Licensure
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent doctoral degree.​

  • Active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of Illinois (not “in process”).​


Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 3–5 years of retail pharmacy management experience (Pharmacist in Charge / Pharmacy Manager).

  • Previous experience working in a retail pharmacy environment.​

  • Proficiency with pharmacy patient management systems and dispensing software.​

  • Strong leadership skills with experience supervising and developing pharmacy technicians.​

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a customer-focused approach.​

  • Proven ability to manage workflow, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced setting.​


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.​

  • Ability to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, and controls.​

  • Sufficient fine motor skills for dispensing and compounding medications.​
