This position is a mid-level professional responsible for supporting the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects, including municipal infrastructure, stormwater management, roadway, utility, and site development projects. The Civil Engineer II applies engineering principles, technical expertise, and project coordination skills to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that support community growth and infrastructure improvements.

The Civil Engineer II works closely with project managers, senior engineers, clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery while ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. This role also provides opportunities for professional growth, increased project responsibility, and mentorship of junior staff.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects from concept through construction and project closeout.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, reports, specifications, construction plans, and technical documentation.
  • Support stormwater management, roadway, utility, grading, and site development design activities.
  • Coordinate permitting activities and assist with obtaining approvals from regulatory agencies and municipalities.
  • Perform technical analysis, feasibility studies, and engineering evaluations for a variety of civil infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of construction cost estimates, project schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, contractors, municipalities, and internal project teams to support project delivery.
  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observation activities as required.
  • Review project documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Support proposal preparation, client communications, and other project-related activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior engineering staff as needed.
  • Any other duties, as necessary, to drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the organization.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering field.
  • Minimum of 3–7 years of relevant experience in civil engineering or municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering design principles, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with stormwater management, roadway, utility, grading, and site development design.
  • Ability to prepare and review engineering reports, calculations, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and applicable engineering software programs such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or related design software.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.

Physical Requirements – Work Environment

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer workstation.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and reviewing engineering documents.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to project sites, client meetings, and field locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry light materials or equipment (typically up to 20–25 pounds).
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as reviewing technical documents, drawings, and engineering calculations.
  • Work environment consists primarily of office-based work with occasional field visits to project sites and construction areas.
