Futrend is seeking a React Front-End Developer to support the modernization of a legacy Java-based enterprise application. The existing application was built using JSP/TagLib, Spring MVC, Hibernate, and SQL Server on Java 7, and is being migrated to a modern architecture using JDK 21.
In this role, you will focus on replacing JSP/TagLib-based user interfaces with modern, responsive React applications. You will work as part of a cross-functional engineering team that includes a Lead Software Engineer/Tech Lead, other Java Developers, Business Analyst, and QA Tester.
This is an excellent opportunity for a junior to mid-level front-end developer to contribute to a large-scale modernization effort in a collaborative team environment.
Core Responsibilities
  • Participate in the design and the translation existing UI functionality and business requirements into modern, responsive React components that maintain function parity with the legacy system.
  • Develop, and maintain React-based user interfaces to replace legacy JSP/TagLib pages
  • Work closely with backend engineers to integrate React applications with RESTful APIs
  • Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions
  • Ensure UI implementations meet usability, performance, and accessibility standards
  • Collaborate with QA and business stakeholders to support testing and defect resolution
Minimum Qualifications
  • US Citizenship or Green Card
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing applications using React
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, including experience with type definitions and interfaces for complex data structures.
  • Deep understanding of modern React hooks and state management (e.g., Redux, Context API, or TanStack Query).
  • Solid understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
  • Experience building responsive and accessible web user interfaces
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and front-end-backend integration
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience migrating or modernizing legacy web applications
  • Familiarity with JSP/TagLib, or experience working with legacy Java-based UIs
  • Working knowledge of Java, Spring MVC, or enterprise Java applications
  • Knowledge of US federal accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508, WCAG 2.x)
  • Experience with automated UI testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress)
  • Prior experience working on federal government contract is a plus
