What is a mid level developer?

Mid Level Developers are software professionals who have gained several years of experience beyond entry-level positions and are proficient in coding, debugging, and collaborating on projects. They possess a strong understanding of programming languages, frameworks, and software development processes. Mid Level Developers often take on more responsibility than junior developers, such as mentoring newer team members, contributing to architectural decisions, and ensuring code quality. They are expected to work independently on tasks, communicate effectively with team members, and deliver reliable solutions to complex problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mid level developer?

To thrive as a Mid Level Developer, you need solid programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, along with a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and frameworks such as React or Spring Boot is typically required. Effective problem-solving, teamwork, and strong communication skills help you collaborate and adapt to project needs. These abilities ensure you can deliver reliable code, work smoothly with colleagues, and contribute to successful software projects.

What opportunities for professional growth can a mid level developer typically expect within a software development team?

As a Mid Level Developer, you can expect to take on more complex projects, mentor junior team members, and gradually assume greater ownership of features or modules. Many organizations support growth through peer code reviews, access to learning resources, and the chance to participate in architectural discussions. Advancement paths often include moving toward senior developer roles, technical leads, or specializing in areas like DevOps or security, depending on your interests and the company's needs.

About the Role

We're looking for an Salesforce Developer Intern to help build, configure, and maintain solutions on the Salesforce platform. You'll work alongside senior developers and business analysts to implement customizations, automate business processes, and support integrations across Sales, Marketing, and Operations. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to grow their development skills within a widely-used enterprise platform.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Configuration

  • Build and maintain custom objects, fields, page layouts, and record types in Salesforce
  • Write Apex classes, triggers, and Lightning Web Components (LWC) under guidance from senior developers
  • Configure Flows, Process Builder, and validation rules to automate business processes
  • Support declarative (clicks-not-code) solutions before recommending custom code

Testing & Quality

  • Write unit tests for Apex code to meet code coverage and quality standards
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues in existing customizations and integrations
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and validate fixes before deployment
  • Follow release management and deployment best practices (sandboxes, change sets, CI/CD tools)

Integrations & Data

  • Assist with integrations between Salesforce and other business systems (marketing automation, ERP, support tools)
  • Support data migration, imports, and data quality efforts using tools like Data Loader
  • Help maintain APIs and middleware connections (e.g., REST/SOAP callouts, MuleSoft, or similar)

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with business analysts and stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, and Operations to understand requirements
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions within the Salesforce platform
  • Document technical designs, configurations, and code changes
  • Provide day-to-day support for Salesforce users, resolving tickets and bugs as needed

AI & Automation Development

  • Help build and configure an interactive AI support agent within Salesforce (e.g., Agentforce/Einstein or custom LWC integration with an LLM API) to automate responses to common user questions
  • Develop Apex classes and Lightning Web Components to connect the AI agent to Salesforce data (cases, knowledge articles, CRM records)
  • Configure and train the AI agent using knowledge base content, FAQs, and support workflows
  • Write test cases to validate AI agent responses, accuracy, and proper escalation to human agents
  • Monitor and iterate on AI agent performance, expanding automated coverage over time
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 0-2 years of experience developing on the Salesforce platform (internships, coursework, or personal projects count)
  • Basic understanding of Apex, Visualforce, and/or Lightning Web Components
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts
  • Understanding of relational databases and basic SQL/SOQL
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn Salesforce best practices and platform updates
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Salesforce Platform Developer I certification (or in progress)
  • Salesforce Administrator certification
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and CI/CD tools
  • Exposure to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Interest in or exposure to AI/LLM tools (e.g., Salesforce Einstein/Agentforce, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, chatbot frameworks)
  • Coursework, internship, or project experience involving CRM or business systems
What Success Looks Like
  • You deliver clean, well-tested code that meets business requirements
  • You become comfortable navigating the Salesforce ecosystem (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and related tools)
  • You build strong working relationships with business analysts and stakeholders across the company
  • You progress toward a Salesforce Platform Developer II certification and a mid-level developer role
