Mid Level Bayesian Statistics information

What can you do with Bayesian statistics?

A mid-level Bayesian statistics professional can apply Bayesian methods to model uncertainty, update probabilities with new data, and improve decision-making processes across various fields such as healthcare, finance, and technology. Proficiency in statistical software like R or Python and understanding of probabilistic programming are essential for implementing these techniques effectively.

Is Bayesian statistics difficult?

Bayesian statistics as a mid-level role involves understanding probability models, prior and posterior distributions, and using tools like R or Python for analysis. While it requires a solid grasp of statistical concepts and programming skills, the difficulty depends on prior experience with mathematics and data analysis. Consistent practice and formal training can help develop proficiency in this specialized area.

What job should I do if I like statistics?

A mid-level Bayesian statistician typically works in data analysis, research, or modeling roles across industries such as healthcare, finance, or technology. These roles involve applying statistical methods, programming skills in languages like R or Python, and understanding Bayesian inference to solve complex problems. Certification or advanced degrees in statistics or related fields can enhance job prospects.

What is the difference between Mid Level Bayesian Statistics vs Data Scientist?

AspectMid Level Bayesian StatisticsData Scientist
Required CredentialsMaster's or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, or related fieldBachelor's or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
Work EnvironmentResearch-focused, analytical, often in finance, healthcare, or academiaCross-functional teams, data analysis, machine learning, business insights
Industry UsageStatistical modeling, probabilistic analysis, research projectsData analysis, predictive modeling, data visualization

Mid Level Bayesian Statistics specialists focus on advanced probabilistic modeling and statistical inference, often in research or specialized industries. Data Scientists have a broader scope, combining statistical analysis with programming and machine learning to solve business problems. While both roles require strong analytical skills, Bayesian statisticians typically emphasize probabilistic models, whereas Data Scientists integrate multiple techniques for data-driven decision-making.

What type of statistician makes the most money?

Senior-level statisticians, such as data science managers or quantitative research directors, tend to earn the highest salaries. Specializations in machine learning, Bayesian methods, or roles in finance and technology often command higher compensation, especially with advanced skills and relevant certifications.

Job description

Design the statistical foundationsย ofย research that informs national policy andย earnsย public trust.ย

As a senior survey research statistician at Gallup, you willย serve as a methodological leader and trusted architect of survey research for Gallup's most demanding U.S. clients,ย including federal government agencies, large national nonprofits, and leading academic and research institutions. These engagements require the highest standards of rigor, transparency and credibility, and yourย expertiseย will directly shape the design systems and quality frameworks that deliver on that promise.ย ย

Whatย You'llย Doย

  • Lead the design and execution of complex survey research programs, including probability-based and address-based sampling, push-to-web and multimode data collection strategies, probability panel operations (both cross-sectional and longitudinal), and advanced weighting and calibration methodologies for probability and nonprobability samples.ย
  • Apply Bayesian approaches and small area estimation techniques to address sub-national and hard-to-reach population inference challenges.ย
  • Ownย the statistical design process end-to-end: crafting sampling plans in compliance with OMB standards and federal statistical agency norms, developing survey-specific variance estimation and imputation of missing data methods, implementing data confidentiality/disclosure procedures, producing audit-ready technical documentation, and communicating methods and findings with authority to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.ย
  • Mentor analysts and juniorย statisticians,ย contribute to Gallup's internal methodological standards, and play a visible role in quality assurance across research programsย as a senior member of the team.ย
  • Contribute across Gallup'sย broad rangeย ofย analytical methods,ย from traditional statistical approaches including regression, analysis of variance and generalized linear models to modern machine learning techniques.ย

Whoย Weย Wantย ย

  • Technically skilled and experienced statisticiansย with deepย expertiseย in modern survey design - statisticians who command the full spectrum,ย from sampling theory to Bayesian inference,ย andย canย navigate complex, multi-stakeholder research environmentsย
  • Strategic problem-solversย withย a track recordย of peer-reviewedย scholarship, federal and large-scale applied research, and a reputation for advancing the rigor of the fieldย
  • Self-motivated collaboratorsย who translate sophisticatedย methodologyย into accessible language for federal program officers, nonprofitย leadersย and academic partners, and who produce documentation that withstands scrutinyย ย
  • Dedicated achieversย whoย elevate the work of those around them, build institutional knowledge, and hold themselves and their teams to the highest standards of transparency and integrityย

Whatย Youย Needย ย

Requiredย

  • Ph.D. in statistics, surveyย methodology,ย biostatisticsย or a closely related quantitative fieldย
  • At least 12 years of applied survey research or quantitative research experience, including experience with federal and/or state government survey programsย
  • Expert-levelย proficiencyย in R and/or Pythonย
  • Knowledge of AAPOR standards on calculation and interpretation of survey response ratesย
  • Knowledge of imputation of missing data techniques,ย including multipleย imputationย ย
  • Experience designing and implementing Non-Response Bias studiesย in accordance withย OMB guidelinesย
  • Familiarity with use of machine learning techniques in surveyย methodologyย
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to proposal writing in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs)ย
  • Demonstrated ability to produce audit-ready technical documentation and communicate complex methods to non-technical stakeholdersย
  • A commitment to working on-site at Gallup'sย Washington, D.C.,ย office at least three days per weekย requiredย
  • Eligibility to work in the United Statesย required; this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorshipย

Stronglyย Preferredย

  • Working knowledge of SAS desirableย
  • Demonstratedย expertiseย in the following areas: address-based sampling (ABS) design, push-to-web and multimode surveyย methodology, probability and nonprobability sample calibration and weighting, Bayesianย methodsย and small area estimation; familiarity with other areasย alsoย strongly preferredย
  • Experience designing and operating probability-based panels (cross-sectional and/or longitudinal)ย ย
  • Knowledge of OMB standards and federal statistical agency norms and reporting requirementsย
  • Peer-reviewed publications in surveyย methodologyย or a related applied fieldย
  • Experience mentoring junior statisticians and analystsย

Whatย You'llย Experienceย

  • Mission-driven work:ย Make a meaningful difference in the world with your unique contributions, commitment to service and exceptional outcomes.ย
  • An empowering culture:Collaborate with smart, passionate people who love what they do and welcome your ideas,ย perspectivesย and experiences.ย
  • Learning andย development:Grow in your career as we invest in what you do best, encourage curiosity and create an environment whereย it'sย safe - and expected - to challenge the status quo.ย
