Job description

Senior System Administrator (Remote)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for a Senior System Administrator for their Portland, Oregon location.  This System Administrator serves as a key person for Critical Business Systems (CBS) support verifying that all hardware, software, and infrastructure required for the development, testing and production implementation of a CBS is acquired, provisioned, deployed, and used in the manner and within the timeframe required.

Key Responsibilities for Senior System Administrator:

  • Provide technical support for Platform Services and systems, and services provisioned within the CBS Virtual Datacenter and CBS Active Directory Domains.
  • Perform the installation, testing, maintenance, and upgrading of services and software supporting the Platform Services within the CBS Virtual Datacenter and CBS Active Directory Domains.
  • Perform incident, problem management and audit support associated with the Platform Services within the CBS Virtual Datacenter and CBS Active Directory Domains. This includes monitoring performance/availability, evaluating incidents/problems, and providing corrective actions to Enterprise Windows Server technology to resolve any issues.
  • Install and decommission the necessary Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server hardware/software and configure the hardware/software to ensure the security, interoperability and interconnectivity to and from each component.
  • Provide technical support pertaining to providing the Enterprise Windows Hosting service. This includes providing technical guidance, training, consultation and additional support to other Enterprise Windows Server support staff, other PaaS technology support staff, and PaaS customers on subjects such as Enterprise Windows Server architecture and capabilities, platform alternatives, configuration alternatives, standards and procedures and performance management.
  • Participate in a regular rotation providing “On-Call” support for Critical Business Systems.

Requirements for Senior System Administrator:

  • U.S. Citizenship and valid U.S. Driver’s License is required.
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
    • With an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in applicable fields, 8 years of experience is required.
    • With an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree not in applicable fields or without a degree, 10 years of experience is required.
  • Experience must include direct work experience in Information Technology performing System Administration.
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of automated data systems
  • Knowledge of the Windows server operating system and basic network architecture.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the following:             
    • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
    • Microsoft IIS
    • Shavlik Protect
    • Tripwire Enterprise
    • Symantec Endpoint Protection Microsoft Windows 2008R2/2012 Active Directory support
    • Virtual Server technology using Hypervisor and Microsoft Virtual Server, or VMWare. 
    • Microsoft Windows Clustering technology
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycle processes including QA.
  • Knowledge of software build and deployment methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of principles governing network and firewalls deployments.
