Description

SHINE Technologies is seeking a Structural Field Engineer who will take ownership for identifying and resolving issues related to planning and implementation of structural supports and other structural aspects of the SHINE Medical Isotope Production Facility and associated outbuildings.  

This position is a good fit for a hands-on engineer and requires working closely cross-functionally to identify and resolve issues in a collaborative environment. The Structural Field Engineer is responsible for working with SHINE Engineering and outside Engineers of Record to finalize layouts and ensure complete designs. The Structural Field Engineer works with Contractors to ensure designs are correctly implemented in the field, configuration control is maintained, all testing is completed as required, and documentation is correct to support closeout and handover to SHINE Commissioning and Operations.  

Hybrid or remote work arrangement will be considered. While our headquarters is located in Janesville, Wisconsin, we welcome applicants from across the U.S. who can effectively collaborate in a virtual environment. Candidates may be asked to travel occasionally for team meetings or onsite engagements, depending on business needs.  


The base salary range for this position is $95,500 - $149,500 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Structural Field Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize prior construction and engineering experience to develop a plan of action to resolve issues affecting design installation, including reviewing drawings, codes, contractor submittals and the 3D model.
  • Conduct constructability reviews of engineering designs and provide input regarding economic and easily constructable support designs.
  • Perform reviews of contractor shop drawings and submittals.
  • Servant-Leader mentality identifying issues before installation and proposing design solutions to SHINE Engineering. 
  • Select, develop, train, and lead the field engineering team to construct a first-of-a-kind medical isotope facility.
  • Provide field oversight to ensure that the facility is built in accordance with the design. Ensure structural design, facility mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment (MEP), and plant process equipment are built in accordance with drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate directly with contractors and engineering to resolve field issues.  
  • Draft ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) including drawing markups, using Bluebeam with technical and formal accuracy. 
  • Identify and track items adverse to quality and provide solutions to resolve non-conforming designs via the NCR process, and drive NCRs to completion.
  • Conduct weekly reviews of open work packages to confirm they are current and to support timely closure.
  • Conduct completions walkdowns prior to testing, as requested by NDE Coordinators.
  • Perform field walkdowns of completed Structures, Systems, and Component (SSC) installations in support of closing work packages.
  • Perform reviews for closure of completed work packages to support turnover to SHINE Commissioning.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and exemplify personal accountability by following through issues to satisfactory completion.
  • Be a champion for safety by executing walkdowns in a safe manner, and coaching others, when needed to improve overall site safety.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Field Engineering Manager.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil/Structural preferred) with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in one or more areas of construction or project management (e.g., work execution, work planning, field engineering etc.) at an active capital construction project.
  • 7 years' experience as a field engineer in any one of the focused disciplines including mechanical engineering may be substituted in lieu of the education requirement.
  • Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, to take directions, as well as think independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings, design specifications, and vendor shop drawings.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and drive acceptable resolutions.
  • Ability to navigate 3D model software and use 3D model as problem solving tool.
  • Ability to climb scaffold/ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform daily work duties from construction site location.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort: 

  • Requires frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, grasping, and reaching above the shoulders and below the knees.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 40 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. 
  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. 
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
