Sr. Software Developer

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Sr. Software Developer will have responsibility for the development, support, and delivery of application solutions while ensuring best practice for business processes and optimizing the usage the ERP/WMS platforms and related systems. Working with a variety of business stakeholders, this role is integral to the delivery of ERP and other business application solutions in a 24/7 discrete and process manufacturing environment.

The Sr. Software Developer will use a combination of business knowledge and technical skills to integrate functions, applications, tools and information from various sources into workstation processes, with the goal of improving end-user productivity. This position will integrate 3rd party applications and facilitate the exchange of information in a secure and effective manner while meeting the needs of production operations as well as provide support for installed applications and effectively communicating with users to achieve business goals.

This role will analyze requirements for complex business process and technical problems, and work with end users to define business data issues and devise effective solutions. Additionally, the Senior Software Developer should maintain a high level of customer service in line with the organization’s expectations and should work to ensure minimal production downtime while working within the constraints of approved operating and capital budgets.

Job Tasks and Required Skills

  • Provides technical leadership and mentors software developers.
  • Partners with Operations, Finance, and other business partners aligning decisions and direction to development efforts.
  • Develop and implement IT application and ERP solutions to identify gaps between business operational processes and systems functionality. Evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, uncover areas for improvement, and develop and implement solutions.
  • Consult with users to identify current operating procedures and clarify program objectives. Research and document overall systems descriptions, batch processes, flows and dependencies.
  • Utilize experience with object-oriented languages: Net C, C++, Java, C#, or other object-oriented compiled languages; scripting languages: Python, JavaScript, R, etc.
  • Utilize knowledge of Microsoft SQL, MySQL, DB2, PostgreSQL, relational databases, etc. Reporting tool vendors such as IBM, Microsoft, AWS, and Azure.
  • Use and understand the function of visual analytics platforms like Microsoft Power BI and experience with SSIS, SQL Analysis Services.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Online.
    • Design and Development: Design, develop, and maintain SharePoint sites, applications, and solutions.
    • Customization: Customize SharePoint features, including web parts, master pages, content types, and workflows.
    • Integration: Integrate SharePoint with other systems, such as CRM or ERP systems, and third-party applications.
    • Workflow Automation: Create custom workflows and automate business processes.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of developing applications and systems in cloud environments: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, BOX, etc.
  • Leverage experience with developing and consuming RESTful API web and EDI services; File formats: XML, JSON, etc.
  • Assist Software Developers troubleshoot production-related application issues, debug and implement changes. Assess user requests for new or modified computer programs to determine feasibility, cost and time required, compatibility with current system, and computer capabilities. Perform maintenance and systems changes that improve efficiencies, performance and reliability
  • Participate in after-hours on-call support for major incidents


Intelligent Automation

  • Design, develop, and implement AI-powered solutions that improve business processes, increase operational efficiency, and enhance decision-making across ERP, WMS, and enterprise applications.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Intelligent Automation to reduce manual effort, improve data quality, and optimize manufacturing and business workflows.
  • Develop AI-enabled applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI APIs such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or AWS Bedrock.
  • Build intelligent assistants, copilots, and workflow automation solutions that integrate with ERP systems, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, SQL Server, REST APIs, and other enterprise platforms.
  • Ensure AI solutions follow established governance, security, privacy, and responsible AI best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend practical solutions that align with business objectives and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify high-value AI use cases and translate them into scalable production solutions.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of software development experience in a packaging or manufacturing support role.
  • Strong functional knowledge of manufacturing workflows, including production scheduling, inventory management, BOM structure, and customer order processing.
  • Advanced software development and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience designing and delivering enterprise AI or automation solutions is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify business opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, reduce costs, or enhance customer service.
  • Proven ability to support users across departments, lead incident response, and manage high-priority support cases.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize support activities, and handle escalations confidently.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with SQL for query writing, data extraction, or log analysis.
  • Familiarity with system integrations to CAD (e.g., ArtiosCAD), shipping systems, and MES tools.
  • Experience supporting multi-plant ERP deployments or corporate-level ERP environments.
  • Experience with git development pipeline or similar code management platform
  • Exposure to change control, version management, and audit readiness in regulated environments (e.g., ISO-compliant facilities).
