What is Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management?

Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management (PIM) is a service within Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) that helps organizations manage, control, and monitor access to important resources in Azure and Microsoft 365. PIM allows you to provide just-in-time privileged access to users, reducing the risk of excessive, unnecessary, or misused access rights. It also provides time-bound access, approval workflows, and detailed audit logs to help ensure security and compliance.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working with Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals managing Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management (PIM) often encounter challenges such as balancing security with user productivity, managing timely approval workflows, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. Addressing these requires strong communication with stakeholders to set clear access policies, regular training for users on elevation processes, and staying updated on platform enhancements.
