Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer within the Perception Team, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Design and build AI-native systems and services that address real-world cybersecurity problems at enterprise scale.
  • Architect, implement, and evolve end-to-end AI solutions, including model integration, orchestration, and system-level decision-making.
  • Evaluate, compare, and integrate different AI models, approaches, and architectures to select the right solution for each security scenario.
  • Build and operate agentic AI systems that can reason, plan, and act across complex security workflows.
  • Operationalize AI capabilities by focusing on reliability, scalability, observability, cost efficiency, and safe deployment in production environments.
  • Leverage modern AI technologies such as large language models, embeddings, vector stores, and retrieval-augmented generation to solve complex security challenges.
  • Contribute across the full lifecycle of AI features, from design and implementation through production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Support, mentor, and collaborate with other engineers.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Security Research, and Data Science teams to deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Embody Microsoft's culture and values.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in one or more languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building and shipping AI features for world-class production systems.
  • Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, C++, or equivalent languages.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
