Job description

Highland Technology is seeking an Electronics Design Engineer interested in developing high-performance embedded electronic systems for scientific, industrial, and aerospace applications. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technically challenging projects and wants to grow in a hands-on, collaborative engineering environment.
You will work with experienced engineers on the design, development, testing, and support of advanced instrumentation electronics, including embedded systems, analog and digital circuitry, and FPGA- or microcontroller-based designs. The position offers hands-on involvement across the full product development cycle, and opportunities for technical growth and increasing responsibility over time.
Responsibilities
  • Design analog and digital electronic circuits
  • Develop system and product requirements and specifications
  • Contribute to system architecture and design discussions
  • Participate in projects involving microprocessor and FPGA code development
  • Support product development, testing, debugging, and validation activities
  • Write thorough product and design documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to identify potential issues and guide design choices
  • Develop production test plans and support manufacturing activities
  • Contribute ideas for new products, features, and technical solutions

Requirements
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design fundamentals
  • Experience with analog circuit design and analysis
  • Experience with digital circuit design and analysis
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and proficient use of the English language
  • U.S. citizenship

Preferred
  • Experience with schematic and board design using PADS or equivalent
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing and control theory: classical, linear, and nonlinear
  • Experience with FPGAs, preferably using VHDL and OSVVM
  • Experience with microcontrollers and C/C++
  • Experience with embedded Linux and some RTOS (FreeRTOS preferred)
  • Experience with analog/mixed-signal design and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with Python or scripting tools
