What is a microgreens?

A Microgreens job involves growing, harvesting, and selling young vegetable greens that are typically harvested within 7-21 days of germination. Responsibilities may include planting seeds, maintaining proper lighting and hydration, harvesting crops, packaging, and delivering orders. Many microgreens jobs are part of small urban farms, greenhouses, or hydroponic setups. It can also involve marketing and selling microgreens to restaurants, farmers' markets, or direct consumers. This role requires attention to detail, consistency, and knowledge of plant care.

What are the daily responsibilities of a microgreens worker?

Daily responsibilities for microgreens professionals commonly include seeding trays, monitoring and adjusting environmental conditions (such as temperature and humidity), watering, harvesting, and packaging microgreens for delivery. You will also be responsible for cleaning work spaces and equipment to maintain strict food safety standards, as well as documenting crop growth and identifying any pest or disease issues. Depending on the size of the operation, you might collaborate with a small team or work independently but will often coordinate with sales or logistics staff to fulfill orders. This hands-on role is ideal for detail-oriented individuals who enjoy working in a structured, production-focused environment.

What skills and qualifications are needed for a microgreens position?

To excel in a Microgreens Grower role, you need hands-on experience in horticulture, basic plant science knowledge, and familiarity with indoor farming or hydroponic systems. Experience with tools like grow lights, irrigation systems, and environmental control equipment is often required, and certifications in agriculture or controlled environment agriculture can be advantageous. Attention to detail, reliability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are important soft skills. These competencies ensure high-quality, consistent crop yields and efficient operation within a fast-paced, quality-driven agricultural environment.
