Job description

Join our family at Hampden DuBose Academy, a small private Christian school nestled in a beautiful rural setting. We are committed to creating a nurturing environment for both students and staff, and we invite you to be a part of our mission!

Position Summary:
We are seeking dedicated Grounds Workers to maintain the beauty and functionality of our campus. The ideal candidates will have a passion for landscaping, a commitment to hard work, and a focus on the mission of our school. Your part in our mission is to be a mentor to our student workers that you will interact with. There are Part-Time and Full-Time positions available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Ag Director: Lead ag student crews in the maintenance and development of the ag program, which includes poultry, gardening, and indoor microgreens, other small animals, and landscape plants. (This work occurs in the afternoon during the Ag student workers shifts)
  • Other grounds maintenance (generally occurs earlier in the school day):
    • Mow lawns, trim weeds, rake leaves, and manage overall landscape maintenance as assigned.
    • Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the campus.
    • Trim bushes, shrubs, and hedges to ensure a neat appearance.
    • Prepare soil and plant flowers, shrubs, and trees, including pruning and care as needed.
    • Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides under supervision.
    • Maintain the athletic fields
  • Perform routine maintenance on power equipment, including fueling and sharpening.
  • Move furniture and supplies across the campus as required.
  • Assist with small construction projects and special campus events throughout the year.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned to support the school.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working with various chemicals and in diverse weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation is essential, as timely attendance is required.

Required Skills:

  • Proficient in operating power equipment (lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers) and using hand tools.
  • Basic knowledge of light-duty and heavy equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, time management, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Previous experience in groundskeeping or landscaping is preferred.
