POSITION GOAL
To ensure that proper accounting procedures are followed in a responsible and accurate manner.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Accounting Specialist II shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.
• Advise, assist and provide leadership to Accounting Specialist I, bookkeepers, budget keepers, cafeteria personnel, and other personnel involved with financial record keeping and reporting.
• Assist in the establishment of accounting procedures.
• Provide information to administrators and supervisors to assist with interpreting and applying accounting information.
• Prepare reports/statements/invoices etc. for administrators or designee.
• Assume responsibility for coding moneys received.
• Perform duties of subordinate personnel, as required.
• Determine contract/grant fund requirements and maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with contract/grant fund requirements.
• Contact other school district departments, government agencies and vendors to provide or request information.
• Monitor and reconcile balances of various accounts.
• Interact effectively with general public, staff members, students, teachers, parents, and administrators, using tact and good judgment.
• Operate standard office equipment such as any generation of typewriter, calculator, CRT terminal, microcomputer, word processor, duplicator, etc. as well as equipment developed or advanced from future technology as required by the job.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Associate's degree in business or related field.

  • AND
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an accounting environment.

  • OR
  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program Education.

  • AND
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in an accounting environment.
  • A working knowledge of accounting theory and practice.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Must be able to analyze data and make rational decisions based on facts.
  • Ability to prepare and complete accurate accounting reports and statements of considerable complexity; to keep complex records and to prepare reports from such records.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• The hiring administrator may specify preferred appropriate additional qualifications as may be related to the job.
• Bilingual skills preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
