Job description

The Product Application Specialist enables sales success for the company welding product lines by providing technical solutions and support for applications and products. This person is the customer face at the Schaumburg Solution Center in Schaumburg, Illinois, for the micro welding group. Responsibilities include various aspects of application engineering, product engineering, and customer support. Extensive direct customer engagement is required. Domestic travel is up to 40% of the time.


PRODUCT APPLICATION SPECIALIST REQUIREMENTS


This multifaceted role includes several key elements combining technical knowledge and customer engagement. This role is focused on the manufacturing technologies of laser welding and resistance welding.


Application Engineering

  • Evaluate customer applications with equipment present in the SSC (contact customers and/or Sales Managers Reps to obtain the necessary information needed to complete the applications on time).

  • Write a detailed report on findings to include recommendations for suitable equipment for the customer to use for their application.

  • Develop, provide, and enhance demonstrations of equipment at the SSC.

  • Travel to customer facilities. (Provide training classes, troubleshooting of their process, or conduct process development).

  • Give presentations on process fundamentals, use and application of equipment.

  • Provide phone and email support to customers and other departments (Provide technical support to all Sales Managers, Reps, and other departments, to ensure quality customer service).


Product Engineering

  • Installing, aligning, servicing lasers, resistance welders, and workstations with PLCs and motion control hardware and software.

  • Training customers in the use and maintenance of our products.

  • Provide training classes or troubleshooting of their equipment.

  • Answering telephone inquiries regarding product operation, maintenance, and applications

  • Collaborate with customers and other visitors on application development in-house.

Customer support

  • Support open houses and customer visits at Schaumburg Solution Center

  • Run demonstrations on companyequipment during open houses and customer visits.

  • Familiarize with companyequipment and processes to provide additional support.

  • Visit customers with the sales team to provide technical assistance on applications and products.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong technical proficiency in electrical or mechanical engineering and a proven record of problem-solving/project completion

  • An Associate’s degree or higher in materials, physics, electronics, or related discipline, but we value equivalent hands-on experience and specialized certifications just as highly.

  • Experience in material processing (welding, cutting, marking) is a plus.

  • Experience in troubleshooting electric circuits or mechanical systems is a plus.

  • Experience in customer service (technical or non-technical) is a plus.

  • Domestic and international travel experience.

  • Valid US Passport required.

  • Good listening skills and note-taking ability (demonstrating accuracy and memory of detail).

  • Experience in phone and personal communication with customers.

  • Positive attitude towards satisfying customer requirements.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Training will be in Monrovia, California, and Wixom, Michigan


  • TRAVEL

  • Up to 40% of the time is anticipated.

  • Most travel will be domestic within 1-2 hours of travel (car or plane)

  • EXPECTED ABILITIES
