Metrology Technician I

Department: Quality Division: Operations

As Metrology Technician I you will be responsible for the functions outlined below.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Must be efficient with the use of various metrology equipment, including but not limited to CMM, Micro-Vu, and Zeiss.
  • Support all activities concerning the metrology equipment including troubleshooting, planned maintenance, annual certifications, repairs, upgrades, etc.
  • Assist in performing Gage R&R and First Article Inspections.
  • Assist Supplier Quality Engineers with inspection of new purchased parts.
  • Perform capability studies.
  • Assist in performing and maintaining gage calibration as required.
  • Assist in the investigation of deviations to aid supervisory personnel and management in undertaking corrective actions or recommendations.
  • Participate in weekly toolbox meetings on safety and quality issues.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of work area; Keep all quality equipment and work surfaces free of oil, grease, clutter, etc.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical Certificate or Associates Degree with concentration in a technical field; 2-3 years of manufacturing experience or related quality experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, and various gauging.
  • Experience with PCDMIS, or other comparable CMM programming software.
  • Certified in GD&T principals. Must be able to apply principles to CMM programs ensuring accurate and proper measurement.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle open-ended problems with little supervision.
  • Prior experience in quality or inspection is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work, interact and effectively communicate with all company officials, employees, vendors, customers, etc.
  • Competent with computer software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook Word).
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Company Values.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
