The Role and Why It's Important
As a Mia Italian Clerk at Hy-Vee, you'll be a key part of a department that brings fresh, delicious food to our customers every day. From taking orders and preparing ingredients to keeping the department stocked and spotless, your work directly shapes the experience customers have when they visit Mia Italian.

What You'll Do
No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly, learning their names, and going the extra mile to make every visit a great one
  • Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, and assist with finding products and answering questions
  • Prepare pizza toppings, pizza dough, breadsticks, and other products as needed throughout your shift
  • Pre-bake pizza crusts and ensure an adequate supply of product is ready and on hand at all times
  • Monitor product freshness, rotate and replenish the cold case, and pull items that are past their date
  • Receive product, verify orders, and place product in the appropriate storage areas
  • Run the department register and process payments where applicable
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized at all times
  • Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department
  • Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer
  • Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies
  • Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed
  • You'll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, and Mia Italian Department Manager

Your Skills
You don't need prior experience for this role! We'll happily train and support you as you grow. To be successful, you'll need to be able to:
  • Follow written and verbal instructions with confidence
  • Use basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording
  • Communicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way
  • Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy department
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, and Mia Italian Department Manager
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
  • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
  • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
  • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment
This is a fast-moving role with significant activity throughout your shift. You may encounter continuous exposure to flour, dust, noise, and temperature extremes, with occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. The role involves working with and around standard food service equipment. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience.
