What is a Mi Tech?

Mi Techs, or Medical Instrument Technicians, are healthcare professionals who are responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting medical equipment used in patient diagnosis and treatment. They work with a variety of devices such as EKG machines, dialysis equipment, ultrasound machines, or respiratory therapy equipment, depending on their specialization. Mi Techs ensure that equipment is functioning properly, assist physicians and nurses during procedures, and help maintain a safe clinical environment. Their technical expertise is essential for patient care and the smooth operation of healthcare facilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mi Tech?

To excel as a Mi Tech (Medical Imaging Technologist), you need a solid background in anatomy, physiology, and imaging techniques, typically backed by an associate's or bachelor's degree in radiologic technology and appropriate state or national certification. Familiarity with imaging equipment such as X-ray, MRI, or CT machines, as well as proficiency in Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), is essential. Attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to reassure and communicate with patients set exceptional Mi Techs apart. These skills ensure accurate diagnostics, patient safety, and a supportive healthcare environment.

What are some common challenges faced by Mi Techs when troubleshooting mobile devices, and how can they be addressed?

Mi Techs frequently encounter issues such as diagnosing complex hardware failures, dealing with software compatibility problems, and managing customer expectations regarding repair timelines. Staying updated with the latest Xiaomi device models and software is crucial to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues. Building strong communication skills helps in clearly explaining technical problems to customers, while following structured diagnostic procedures can significantly improve repair accuracy and efficiency.

The Opportunity: From Tech Support to Teacher Residency Mi Escuela Montessori is looking for a Technology Specialist who is passionate about both high-level technical management and the future of Computer Science (CS) education. This role is unique: you will manage our digital infrastructure while being mentored to become our lead Computer Science Teacher.

If you are a tech-savvy paraprofessional who wants to transition into the classroom in the future, we will support you. We are offering a pathway to Florida Teacher Certification while you gain hands-on experience managing a school digital environment.

Key Responsibilities1. Technical Operations & Inventory
  • Device Management: Act as the administrator for student and staff device onboarding (Laptops, Tablets, and specialized classroom tech).

  • App Management: Manage the deployment and licensing of student educational apps and software platforms.

  • Testing Coordinator Support: Prepare, update, and manage the mobile computer labs for Florida State Testing (FAST) and other standardized assessments.

  • Inventory Control: Maintain a meticulous asset tag system for all school hardware and peripherals.

  • Security and Restrictions: Monitor student computer use and ensure compliance with the school’s CIPA policy

2. Instructional Support & Computer Science
  • Classroom Integration: Push into classrooms to support students and guides in utilizing technology as a tool for research and creation (aligned with the Montessori 2nd and 3rd Planes of Development).

  • CS Curriculum: Assist in facilitating introductory coding, digital citizenship, and computational thinking lessons.

  • The "Morning Show": Lead and produce the school’s daily "Morning Show," teaching students the basics of digital media production, audio/visual equipment, and broadcasting.

3. Professional Growth (Teacher Residency)
  • Licensure Pathway: For candidates without a teaching certificate, the school will provide mentorship and guidance to obtain Florida Professional Licensure (Computer Science K–12).

  • Hybrid Evolution: This role is designed to evolve into a hybrid Tech Coordinator / CS Teacher position as the candidate progresses in their certification.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: Minimum of Associates Degree

  • Technical Skill: Proficiency in managing G-Suite (Google for Education), MDM software (like Mosyle or Jamf), and basic hardware troubleshooting.

  • Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts to both 7-year-olds and adult staff members.

Preferred:

  • Media Experience: Knowledge of video editing or live-stream production (for the Morning Show).

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or Education (ideal for the licensure pathway).

Schedule: 10-month
