Position Summary
The Mass Spectrometry Technology Access Center (MTAC) at WashU, St. Louis has an opening available for highly motivated applicants for the position of Research Technician I. The MTAC is a newly created recharge facility within the McDonnell Genome Institute (MGI) serving regional, national, and worldwide researchers for their Mass spectrometry needs.
This position assists with the technical aspects of wet-lab processes including documentation and preparation of mass spectrometry samples following well established Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs). The Research Technician I is responsible for the preparation of protein samples for proteomics analysis or extract metabolites/lipid for metabolomics applications.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assists the investigator or higher-level technician with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and setup and maintenance of equipment.
  • Tissue or body fluids specimen processing.
  • SDS PAGE protein gel running.
  • UV-Vis Spectrophotometer for BCA or Bradford protein quantification.
  • Prepares solvents for HPLC.
  • Compliance with EHS checklist.
  • Meticulous documentation of client samples from receiving through data return.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
  • Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
  • Must be physically able to wear protective equipment.
