Job description

As a Metrology Technician at Lexington Medical, you will write and maintain the OGP SmartScope inspection programs that verify the components going into a surgical stapler, turning engineering drawings and GD&T requirements into repeatable measurement routines. The programs you build decide what passes and what gets rejected, so a datum chosen poorly or an edge detection setting left loose has real consequences downstream. Quality, engineering, and manufacturing all work in the same building in Bedford, which means when a measurement is disputed you can settle it with the people who own the drawing and the process.

About Lexington Medical

Lexington Medical designs and manufactures AEON surgical stapling technology at our headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. Our products are used in minimally invasive surgery, where precision, reliability, and quality matter every time. Because engineering, manufacturing, and quality work together under one roof, the people building and supporting our products are close to both the process and the decisions behind it.

About the Role

As a Metrology Technician at Lexington Medical, you will join the Quality Control team and own the automated inspection programs used on incoming and manufactured components for our AEON surgical stapling products. You will develop, modify, and maintain OGP SmartScope routines, establish datums, alignments, and measurement strategies, and dial in the optical parameters (lighting, magnification, focus, and edge detection) that make a measurement repeatable rather than merely close. You will also develop and document the fixtures and setup methods that keep results consistent from operator to operator.

This is a hands-on role centered on OGP programming, dimensional metrology, and GD&T interpretation. You will validate and optimize programs for accuracy and cycle time, revise them as drawings and component revisions change, and work directly with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing when a dimension is in question. In a company this size, the person who owns metrology is the one everyone comes to when the numbers do not agree.

Responsibilities:ย ย

  • Create,ย modify, andย maintainย OGPย SmartScopeย inspection programs for incoming and manufactured components.ย
  • Translate engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements intoย accurate, repeatable inspection routines.ย
  • Establish datums, alignments, measurement strategies, and optical inspection parameters, including lighting, magnification, focus, and edge detection.ย
  • Develop and document fixtures and setup methods to ensure consistentย componentย inspection.ย
  • Validate, troubleshoot, andย optimizeย OGP programs for accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency.ย
  • Revise inspectionย programsย as drawings, specifications, andย componentย revisions change.ย
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing to support dimensional inspection and resolve measurement issues.ย

Qualifications:ย

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in metrology, quality, manufacturing, orย a relatedย field.ย
  • Experience in dimensional inspection, metrology, or quality control.ย
  • Hands-on experience creating or modifying OGPย SmartScopeย inspection programs strongly preferred.ย
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.ย
  • Experience with optical or automated dimensional inspection equipment and measurement techniques.ย
  • Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting skills, and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.ย
  • Medical device or other regulated manufacturing experience preferred.ย

What Success Looks Like

  • Within your first few months, you are writing new SmartScope programs from a drawing on your own, and they hold up under validation.
  • By one year, the program library is documented and current with the latest drawing revisions, and inspection is not the bottleneck when a new component arrives.
  • When a measurement is disputed, you are the person Quality and Engineering come to, and you can show whether the part, the program, or the fixture is at fault.

Location & Work Arrangement

This position is based at our headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts, in the Greater Boston area, and is an on-site role.
