Job description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for improving the quality of products by working with Design, Manufacturing, and other functions to identify sources of variation and defects and develop preventative controls. The Quality Engineer leads the development and implementation of quality processes, improves production efficiency, minimizes the cost of poor quality, and ensures products meet all customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and define process control requirements and measurement systems; create and improve control plans
  • Identify sources of variation that result in defects and customer complaints, using variation reduction tools
  • Work collaboratively with product development teams in the Product Development Quality Engineer role to identify and prevent defects prior to production
  • Lead problem solving with all levels of the organization, including Engineering and Manufacturing, using disciplined methods such as 8D
  • Develop sampling plans, quality standards, and process control instructions for use by manufacturing in monitoring and reducing variation
  • Serve as Internal Auditor; audit quality processes to ensure compliance and lead teams to develop corrective actions for non-conformances
  • Assist in the development of global quality processes and procedures to create effective and standardized work practices
  • Serve as internal consultant for metrology and measurement needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years of related experience in quality engineering
  • Experience with structured problem solving methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, A3, or other
  • Hands-on experience creating and/or updating quality documentation such as work instructions and inspection standards
  • Knowledge of Quality System tools such as FMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow, Gage R&R, and Capability Studies
  • Experience with metrology, including creating programs for and running CMMs and laser scanners
  • CMM experience required (PCDMIS, MODUS, Zeiss Inspect)
  • Strong working knowledge of GD&T
  • Hands-on, collaborative approach with plant floor operations teams; strong teaching and coaching skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • CAD experience
  • Auditing experience
  • Composite knowledge

Additional Job Details
  • Must be physically able to perform all steps within the wheel manufacturing process to understand the best processes needed for their creation
  • Must be able to continuously stand or walk for at least 80% of the workday
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, bend, squat, climb stairs, lift frequently, and reach 40 inches
  • Must be available to meet with global teams before or after standard hours
  • Must be available for international travel as needed, estimated up to 15% of time
