A CMM Programmer / CMM Specialist / Metrology Engineer is required to take ownership of CMM inspection processes within a manufacturing environment. This is an opportunity for an experienced metrology professional to become the technical lead for CMM operations, improving inspection methods, programming standards, and measurement consistency across the organisation.


The successful CMM Programmer / CMM Specialist / Metrology Engineer will be responsible for developing and optimising CMM programs, supporting complex inspection requirements, and helping to improve the skills and processes of other CMM users. This role is suited to someone with strong Zeiss Calypso experience who can confidently create reliable inspection programs from complex engineering drawings and GD&T requirements.

The CMM Programmer / CMM Specialist / Metrology Engineer Role:

  • Serve as the technical expert for CMM programming, inspection methodology, and measurement strategy.
  • Develop, program, optimise, and troubleshoot CMM inspection routines to support manufacturing and quality requirements.
  • Create effective inspection programs for complex machined components, ensuring accurate and repeatable measurement results.
  • Improve CMM processes through programming standards, inspection strategies, revision control, and best practices.
  • Support, coach, and train CMM operators and inspection personnel to improve capability and consistency.
  • Set up fixturing, probes, and inspection sequences to achieve reliable measurement outcomes.
  • Perform incoming and first article inspections using engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection specifications.
  • Maintain inspection documentation, quality records, and CMM program updates to support traceability and compliance.


CMM Programmer / CMM Specialist / Metrology Engineer Requirements:

  • Experience as a CMM Programmer, CMM Specialist, Metrology Engineer, CMM Technician, Quality Engineer or similar manufacturing metrology professional.
  • Proven experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) in a manufacturing or quality environment.
  • Strong experience with Zeiss Calypso or similar CMM programming software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection specifications.
  • Experience creating inspection programs from complex drawings and troubleshooting measurement challenges.
  • Background in metrology, quality, CNC machining, manufacturing, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting, training, or mentoring other CMM operators or inspection personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and repeatable inspection results.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience supporting ISO-based Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Experience with quality systems such as uniPoint or similar platforms.
  • Experience with controlled documentation and nonconformance processes.
